Learning To Squeeze

Why Should I Do What's In This Video?

In order to get to the most power out of your voice…something's gotta squeeze. I just
want to make sure none of that squeezing comes from the shoulders up.

What Is It I Need To Know Most About What's In Here?

The muscles contractions should be from the chest down and that will actually give you
more power and protect the voice. Many singers struggle to sing with power and
experience a lot of throat tension. This is because they push out and they squeeze from
their throat…if you squeeze from the throat you are guaranteed to lose your voice.

How Do I Start "Squeezing" Effectively?

The following exercises will help to give more bite and prevent your voice from being
breathy which will ultimately damange your voice in the long run.

• Low 360 degree breath 10X

• Hiss for 40 seconds 3X 8 breaths
• Hiss to "z" to "ah" exercise 10Xs

What Will Happen If I Start Doing This Right?

You will use more of the body when you are singing which will actually give you more
power and will actually protect the throat so it has two benefits at the same time.

How Do I Know When It's Time To Move To The Next Video?

- Are you hissing forcefully enough to feel contractions in the sternum, the sides, and
the back? If so, move on!
- Are you feeling the lower body engage and not feel neck muscles engaging? If not,
spend some more time on this video.
