Activity 1: In a group of four, look at the following pictures carefully. Please

school. Your promotion will be advertised through your school radio station so that
the community in your town will be informed about your school.

Before you read the manuscript on air, please share the results of your manuscript so

their feedback, please make necessary revision.

Baseball players who were not at the Awards Handover last night should see Coach Heru for their award
today.

Students, show that you care for the environment. Please recycle as you are cleaning out your lockers. There
are bins in front of the LGL across from the library, please take the time to recycle the following items that are
in NEAR NEW condition: 3 ring binders, notebooks, colored pencils and crayons, pens and pencils, folders, and
anything else a needy student could use for next year.

Anatomy and Physiology Students from 1st semester. If you would like your binders back, please pick them
up before 3:10 on Wed. If you do not, they will be disposed of in an ecological friendly manner.

If you are interested in playing volleyball, please sign up in the office and pick up summer league information.

The students who picked up Distance Learning forms from Mrs. Ratna, need to make sure those are
submitted today.

Community Service
• A listing of events/opportunities going on this summer is available in the Career Center. Stop in today or
tomorrow and pick up a sheet off the table.
• Volunteers are still needed to help out at Taman Sari this summer for football tournaments. Sign up in the
Career Center.
All Students: Please turn in your textbooks to the library as soon as you finish with them. Also, please check
the fine list in the library and pay all fines before you leave on Wednesday.

“Win By Pin” Summer Wrestling Camp:  Any 5thor 6thgrade student interested in the camp, which will be held on July
26th& July 27th, information will be available in the elementary office.

The Community Center will be holding 2 trainings the 1stweek of June:

a. Water Safety Instructor Training WHO

June 1st& 2nd:  (7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. )     June 3rd:  (7:00 a.m. – 12 noon)

This certification will qualify you to teach Indonesian Red Cross swimming lessons, must be 16 years of age, must pre-
register and cost:  $140.00

b. Lifeguard Training Course WHAT TO DO

June 3rd: (1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)     June 4th& 5th:  (7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

This certification will qualify you to be an Indonesian Red Cross Lifeguard, must be 15 years of age, must pre-register and
cost: $140.00.

Activity 4: Read the following part very carefully.

The following lists several tips to write a carefully written


announcement:
What to do
How to do it and why

Be straightforward and Write your announcement in a straightforward and concise way


brief so the reader can get the information quickly.

Keep it short If you are making a positive announcement, keep it short,


inviting, and to the point.

Motivate others to If you announce or recognize the achievements of others, you


achieve the same can, if you write appropriately, motivate others to achieve the
objectives same objectives.

Write to avoid questions Make the information in your announcement clear and complete,
later so you are not asked with questions later.

Avoid nonsense If you are announcing bad news, make a direct, no-nonsense
statement. Your tone should be considerate and respectful.

Activity 2: Your school’s Koperasi Siswa has just improved its management
and services. In a group of four, design an adverstisement informing the new
improvement that has been made in your school’s Koperasi Siswa. You may need to
add some illustrations or pictures to make the advertisement look more attractive.
When you finish, share your team’s work with the class. Display the result on the
blackboard.

Activity 3: In a group of four, design an announcement for your school that is


running a competition on making a poster to advertise your school’s Koperasi Siswa.
In the announcement determine the criteria and the conditions to join the
competition as well as the time and the prizes for the winners.

Homework
1. In pairs, find two good advertisements and two not very good advertisements in the
newspapers. Give the reasons why you judge the advertisements you choose good
and not very good.

2. In pairs, find two online advertisements. Then compare the newspapers


advertisements and online advertisements. What are the advantages and the
disadvantages of the newspapers advertisements and online advertisements.

3. Find three examples of online announcements. How are the announcements in


annoucement boards different from online annoouncements?

Summary
In this unit you have learned how to use spoken and written advertisements and
announcements. Both advertisements and announcements have their own elements that
become their characteristics. For examples, there are elements of who, what, when, and
where. Advertisements use informative and persuading languages whereas announcements
should be not only informative, but also brief and to the point.
