UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC POLICY ON THE SECOND SEMESTER AY 2019.

2020
IN THE TIME OF COVID.19*

The Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECa) and the rapid COVID-19 escalation
in the City of Pasay have caused profound human suffering among our faculty, $taff,
students, constituents, and stakeholders. However, we need to ensure the provision of
flexible learning opportunities for our students.

ln this regard, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has issued Advisory
no. 6 dated 13 April 2A2A authorizing HEls that are using the new academic calendar
(August - July) to extend the semester for a maximum of one (1) month after the lifting
of the Enhanced Community Quarantine. Likewise, the Association of Local Colleges
and Universities (ALCU) and ALCUCOA have recommended for the implementation of
Seamless-Blended Digital Learning during the Second Semester and Summer of SY
249-2424 as a response to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECO) period due to
pandemic COVID - 19.

ACADEMIC POLICY FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER, AY 2A19.2A2A

1. The University shall end the Second Semester on 13 July 2020. However,
there will be no more face-to-face classes for undergraduate students after 15 May
2024. The University shall endeavor to adopt flexible modes of instruction,
requirements, and assessment methods that are consistent with the mission, vision, and
goals of the university.

2. All Colleges are directed to waive their respective Midterm Exams.

3. DepartmentsiFaculty shall prepare the necessary adiusted course learning


outcomes, which shall allow them to assess the academic performance of their
students. Adjusted learning outcomes for the completion of the course should be
communicated to students through all means, if possible, taking the crisis into account.

4. Final Grades shall be based on the submitted outputs of the students.


Assessment will be done by the teachers in consideration of the learning outcornes of
the university.

5. Students have up to 13 July 2020 to complete the adjusted course learning


outcomes, upon compliance with which the students shall be given a numeric grade. lf
the (a) student fatls to submit the required outputs despite the given deadline or (b)
where there is no sufficienf basr's for assessment, the student shall be given a "deferred
grade" and is granted a one (1) academic year for the completion of such
requirements. The "deferied grade" shall not appear in their Transcript of Records.

6. A student who enrolled in a course in the Second Semester, AY 2019-2020


that is a prerequisite to another, shall be allowed to enroll in the latter course for credit
despite having a "Deferred Grade" for the prerequisite course. The department shall
offer bridging programs to enable the students to catch up with the course in the First
Semester, AY 2020-2021 .

7. For OJT students. Students who have unfinished duty hours in the industry
partners for On the Job Training (OJT) or internship regardless of the number of hours
attended will be given a Passing Grade after the submission of OJT Journal, which
includes daily accomplishment report and documentation.

8. For Practice Teaching students. A video presentation of demo teaching is


required to be submitted on line to the Dean of the College of Education. The schedule
of submission may be announced in the official Facebook page of CUP Central Student
Council.

9. For Related Learning Experience (RLE) and Skills Lab (Nursing


Students). Based on the current situation, the clinical areas are considered at high-risk
exposure to COVID-19 cases. Hence, RLE in all areas are suspended until safety for all
faculty members and students is feasible. Remaining RLE hours will be added to the
succeeding semester to comply with the needed requirements for the completion of the
course. Skills Laboratory lectures, guided demonstrations shall be deferred until further
notice by the school authorities.

10. For Graduate Students and Students of the College of Law. The faculty
of the respective Colleges shall determine how best to proceed with their courses, in
consultation with their students, and consideration of the current crisis. The parameters
for the assessment of their student's academic performance shall be determined by the
respective colleges/departments, likewise taking into consideration the current crisis.

11. For the Graduate School, there shall be an online thesis defense to be
scheduled by the Dean of Graduate School. However, in case of failure to do so, they
shall be granted an extension of one (1) academic year to complete their course
requirements, including thesis defense.

12.For graduating students who are applying for honors, the courses taken
during this period will not be included in the computation and evaluation of their grades,
unless favorable to the sfudenfs.
13.Graduating students completing their respective course learning outcomes
after the deadline set by the University Registrar shall be endorsed to the BOR for
graduation when it meets to approve the candidates for graduation of the semester the
student completes the requirements. However, upon approval of the Board of
Regents, the student shall be deemed graduated as of the Second Semester, Ay
2019-2420.

FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER, AY 2020.2021

A Classification of On-Line Connected Learners has to be considered in the


conduct of Flexible Learning activities such as full Online, Partial, or intermittent and
Offline. A survey will be conducted as to the classification of on line connected learners
in preparation for the incoming first semester in case Flexible Online learning will still be
conducted. The Research Director will prepare the suruey form, which will be posted to
the Central Student Council Facebook page in google forms.

CONCLUDING REMARKS

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many changes and challenges to
our lives, However, let us all continue to be compassionate, understanding, and flexible
when interacting with one another. We hope that the City University of Pasay (CUP) will
emerge as a stronger, more inclusive, and caring community, which values everyone's
physical safety, mental health, and promote quality education despite these challenges.
Learning cannot come to a standstill at this time of the pandemic.
