English;
It looks like we will not be going abroad on holidays any time soon, but what matter! We may be
content with our own locality for a while longer, but we can plan, a pháistí, for when we can move
about more freely again!

Take out the Atlas and look at a map of Ireland.

Pick a coastal county. Look for somewhere nice that is beside the sea. Locate the nearest big town
to your selected place, eg Rosses Point is beside Sligo, Salthill is near to Galway etc.

Now, research your location! Specifically look for:

1. What can a family do there? What accommodation options are

there, hotels, B and Bs, campsite… Decide on whichever option you
prefer. Pick a specific hotel/ Band B/ campsite, that you like the
look of, and, work out its price, for one week for your family. See
are there any special offers available.
2. Next, eating options. Is it included with your accommodation
package? Or, will you have to eat in restaurants? What restaurants
are nearby? What selections do they offer? Price?
3. How will you spend your days on holiday at this location? What
facilities are offered nearby, eg Mini golf, funfair, surfing lessons,
cookery classes etc. Think carefully about this. You don’t want
everyone to be bored and cranky!!! Look for things to do , that will
interest everyone, at least some of the time! So research well
here!
4. What scenery can one enjoy there? Is there anything of natural
beauty nearby that you really should visit, eg Cliffs of Moher in
Clare, Glencar Waterfall in Sligo ,Slea Head outside Dingle, Kerry,
Bray to Greystones cliff walk in Wicklow etc…

I’m looking forward to seeing where you select. Present your research as a project. You never
know, do a good enough job and you may sometime get to visit your holiday venue!! Start saving
your cash!

 Newsflash has a poetry challenge for you on Friday to do with a seaside holiday.

Ealaín:
Bunaithe ar an obair thuas luaite.

Dean Cárta Poist/ postaer faoin áit a roghnaigh tú le du lar do laethanta saoire le do chlann.

Cad a tharraingeoidh tú ar do charta? Ná dean dearmad ,dathanna laidre a usaid, ionas go mbeidh
do charta tarraingteach. Na dearmad freisin, ainm an áite a scríobh ar do charta.
OSPS:
Design the best seaside dessert ever… A Knickerbocker Glory! Meas tu, cad é sin?! Google it!

Anois, cad a chuirfidh tu I do Knickerbocker Glory, le bheith blasta? Ta dha rogha agat anois;

1. Tarraing menu card don mhilseog, le dathanna agus lipéidí.

2. Dean do mhilseog don clann.
Beidh ort gloine ard a usaid chun go bhfeicfidh gach duine na “layers” ar fad.
3. Iarr orthu feedback a thabhairt duit. An raibh sé blasta?
4. An athróidh tú aon rud faoi an chéad uair eile? Bon appetit!

Eolaíocht:
2 thriail shimplí anois.

1. See the effects of friction on different surfaces.

Uait. A long strip of sandpaper/ rud eigin garbh.

Píosa adhmad/ wooden floor
Cairpéid.
Bréagán- carr beag.
Modh:
 In turn, move your carr along the surface of each.
 On which surface does your car run most smoothly?
 Why do you think this is?
 Try out some other surfaces now. Estimate how easily/ difficult your car will move
on each, beforehand.

Application:

 Cars skid on wet roads sometimes because the surface water creates less friction
between the wheels and the road. The treads on your car’s tyres help solve this
problem as the water is forced into the spaces between the treads and the tyre
surface stays on the road.
 Téigh amach agus féach ar do charr agus ar na roth atá air. An bhfeiceann tú na
treads.
 Ask your parents what happens when you get a flat tyre? And, how to change a
tyre. Horrible, if it ever happens to you, but important knowledge to have!

2. See how air pressure works:

Uait: gloine.
Uisce.
Cairt clar./ card
Modh:
 Líon an gloine go barr le h-uisce.
 Go cúramach ,cuir an cáirt chlár ar bharr an ghloine
 Seas in aice leis an doirteal anois!!!
 Keeping the card in position, cas an gloine bunoscionn.
 Remove your second hand from the card
 Cad a thárlaíonn???!

Cén Fáth?

Air has a quality called Pressure. Brúann aer I ngach treo, even upwards!

Can you think of a great application of this knowledge in our lives? Hint: Go outdoors and look up!

Sin é don tseachtaine seo, a phaistí!

Slan go fóill, agus na dean dearmad scríobh chugam!!

Le gach dea- ghuí,

Muinteoir.
