¿CUÁLES SON LAS VENTAJAS DE REDUCIR LOS COSTOS LOGÍSTICOS Y
DE TRANSPORTE EN LA DISTRIBUCIÓN FÍSICA INTERNACIONAL Y LAS
DESVENTAJAS DE LOS ALTOS COSTOS EN LA MISMA?

Introduction

Through this test that will be performed acontinuacion we can see what are the
advantages of reducing logistics costs in the international physical distribution, will
be reflected the components that contain each of the advantages, and we can see
how these advantages can take us common disadvantages of being able to apply
high costs in the international physical distribution and transport logistics.
what are the advantages of reducing logistics and transportation costs in
international physical distribution and the disadvantages of high costs in the
same?

Faced with the challenges of free trade agreements, the challenges for the
domestic industry will be sown in the supply chain, mainly in customer
segmentation, holistic product design, tailored supply strategies, product
distribution management and complex services and the ability of companies to
adapt to the market.

In keeping with this, the companies will guarantee the continuous supply of the
required products, increase their sales income, diversify their means of transport
and have results that will generate competitive advantages to expand their market
share.

The real success for Colombian companies in an FTA environment will be their
ability to adapt, which will allow them to maintain a balance between the production
process and the needs of the final consumer, thus achieving results that positively
impact their growth and development, says Édgar Blanco, Research Director of the
Transportation and Logistics Center of MIT and of the Latin American Logistics
Innovation Center (CLI) of Logyca, logistics consulting company.

For Isabel Agudelo, executive director of Logyca, the consulting firms will also have
to make an important advance in terms of alliances.

"It is very important that the consultants know the operation in other markets. It
would be ideal to have local consultants or alliances with local firms that speed up
the achievement of such knowledge. It is not possible to have all the knowledge
within a single firm. "

The process and the low competitiveness generated by logistics costs are the main
drawbacks when doing business.

In Colombia, after the winter wave that hit the country, these prices had an
increase of 18 to 22 percent, when for example in the United States they represent
around 8 percent.

Similarly, when comparing the economic distance to mobilize a container of 40 feet

in equivalent routes, cost per kilometer, it is evident that in Colombia the costs of
the routes from the center of the country to the ports are up to four times higher
than in other countries with similar distances, regardless of the type of cargo and
the mode of transport.
Such is the case of the Buenaventura-Bogotá route, whose value per kilometer is
4.4 dollars, while the Charleston-Atlanta routes in the United States or Rotterdam-
Frankfurt in Europe cost around one dollar per kilometer.

In the opinion of Andrés Felipe Santos, director of the Logistics and Production
program of the Universidad del Rosario, freight transport costs are inequitable and
directly affect national entrepreneurs.

For the academic, "our companies waste their investment in increasingly expensive
logistics operations" and not only in the trade to the United States.

"In the distribution of a bottle of wine from Europe to Latin America, the logistics
cost in countries like Mexico, the United States and Argentina increases by an
average of $ 1.80.

A Venezuela goes up 9.8 dollars.

However, in Colombia the cost is scaled to $ 26, a scenario not comfortable for the
country, "says the teacher.

Édgar Higuera, manager of Logistics, Transport and Infrastructure of the Andi,

affirms that the country must take urgent measures to reduce the high increases in
cargo transport.

The transport sector has achieved great prominence within the processes carried
out within each of one of the companies, so much so that the growth of the sector
has been more than estimated, thanks to factors such as the elimination of some
trade barriers and the giant steps that globalization has taken.

According to Dane figures, in the first quarter of 2012 the sector grew 6.1 percent,
compared to the same period in 2011.

This behavior is explained by the growth of land transport services by 5.3 percent,
of air transport services by 10.6 percent, of supplementary and auxiliary transport
services by 7.6 percent, and of postal and telecommunications services by 6.3
percent and cargo movement by 2.6 percent.

However, it is expected that this growth will increase after assuming some
challenges that are still needed for logistics and transport to achieve their
objectives faster and with lower costs. Some of these challenges are: maximizing
revenue, improving transport infrastructure and designing processes that help
manage fraud.
There is much to improve, especially to compete with the big markets. In 2012,
Colombia ranks 64 out of 155 countries according to the World Bank's Logistics
Performance Index (LPI).

MAIN POINTS

 The process and the low competitiveness generated by logistics costs are
the main drawbacks when doing business.
 freight transport costs are inequitable and directly affect national
entrepreneurs.
 The transport sector has achieved great prominence within the processes
carried out within each of one of the companies, so much so that the growth
of the sector has been more than estimated, thanks to factors such as the
elimination of some trade barriers and the giant steps that globalization has
taken.
 it is expected that this growth will increase after assuming some challenges
that are still needed for logistics and transport to achieve their objectives
more quickly and with lower costs.
 There is much to improve, especially to compete with the big markets.
Conclusion

Through this trial I could compare the importance of analyzing each of the
advantages and disadvantages of transport logistics and international physical
distribution, it can be seen in the essay that logistics in terms of transport has
grown over the last few years and it is expected that the high costs in the
international physical distribution will decrease in order to obtain a successful
export in each of the companies.
