‘When I was at the party,’ ‘Why not?’ her mother asked her,

Said Betty, aged just four, Full of delight to find

‘A little girl fell off her chair That Betty- bless her little heart! -

Right down upon the floor; Had been so sweetly kind.

And all the other little girls “Why didn’t you laugh, my little darling?

Began to laugh, but me – Or don’t you like to tell?’

I didn’t laugh a single bit,’ I didn’t laugh,’ said Betty,

Said Betty seriously. ‘Cause me it was that fell.’
