Nomophobia

What´s your reaction when your phone has died? Have you stay calm? Well, in others words
when you just go crazy when you can’t find your phone, you have Nomophobia.
Maybe you know someone or you have this phobia, so continue reading if you want to know
that you are not the only one with this, symptoms and some treatments that you can do to
stop feeling this when you don’t have your phone.

What is nomophobia?
Nomophobia is a proposed name for the phobia of being out of a cellphone contact. Although
nomophobia does not appear in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders, it has been proposed as a “specific phobia”. In other words you use your phone as
a colossal waste of time.

The results of a study made on Britain came to light when this percentages was published on
a magazine: 2,163 people that is phone users 53% had nomophobia, the 58% was men
whereas the other 22% was women. The study also found that the stress levels induced by
the average case of nomophobia to be on-par with those of "wedding day jitters" and trips to
the dentist.
The term "techno-stress" is another way to describe an individual who avoids face-to-face
interactions by engaging in isolation including psychological mood disorders such as
depression.

If you make a list of the people you know at least one or two had this phobia, maybe they
don’t know it but the people around it need to tell them that they have this problems because
in long- term this can affect themselves psychologically and physically or even affect other
people.
This are some symptoms that the people with nomophobia can have:

 anxiety
 respiratory alterations
 trembling
 perspiration
 agitation
 disorientation
 tachycardia

Emotional symptoms:
 Depression
 Panic
 Fear
 Dependence
 Rejection
 Low self-esteem

In my personal experience one of my friends has this phobia, she always has a charger for
her phone because she just go crazy if she can´t use it and obviously sometimes that affect
me because we can´t have a conversation without interruptions because she need to be
texting or post something on Facebook.
In my opinion I think that if it a study is done all around the word the results will be shocking
because at least 60% will have this phobia, and I think this is horrible because someday we
are going to stop interactive with each other’s for being with our phone.

And idea that you can use as a treatment is make rules to yourself like designate time for
activities that you can do without your phone or do a table of schedules of you free time to
use your phone and check your social medias.
Also there are many groups and centers where you can go to an individual or group therapy.
Another therapy, that in my personal opinion is not the best, use medications to treat this
phobia, but this therapy is not FDA- approved. You can do a sea change if you try this
treatments.

In conclusion this phobia can affect you and the people that is around you because the
cellphones catch you and if you did not do anything you will not have real friends, because
the ones that you have on the social media are not real friends. Also you can change your life
orientation because you will realize that if you don´t use your phone all day you will have
more time to do other activities that you like.
