This book was read to Ella once a week for three weeks (3 times). The book was
chosen because of its repetitiveness, engagement, and rich illustrations. On the first
day, I read the story with emphasis on expression, having Ella enjoy and listen to the
book. At the end of the first reading, we discussed how she would feel if she was the
caterpillar and why. Day two I read the book with Ella chiming in on repetitive
parts. We also pointed out “wow words” which went on our vocabulary word wall
and figured out what they meant by using context clues together. The third day, I
encouraged Ella to read with me, but still could only read the repetitive parts and

o Ella thrived off of a read-aloud. Her comprehension was wonderful and she

- I have a little brother he is 2 years old. I have no pets or best friends I like everyone.

- I like to play games with my brother.

- My brother is so cute!

- My dad reads to me before bed. We read books with pictures in it.

- Yes
6. Do you have any favorite books or authors? What are they? Why do you like them?
- No
7. Are you a good reader? Why or why not?
- Yes. Because I am the best at everything.
8. What do you think is the hardest part about reading?
- Reading the walls.
9. What do you do when you come to a word that you don’t know?
- Ask a friend.
10. Where do you get the books you read at home?
- We buy books at the book fair in the fall and spring.
11. What do you like most about school?
- Gym class.
12. What kinds of things do you do when you have reading at school?
- We read one book and talk about it.
13. What would you like to be when you grow up?
- A grandma
14. Do you think reading will be important to you?
- Yes, everyone reads.
