smoking campaign in Iran

We recently showed that the prevalence rate of current and daily

cigarette smoking in Iran is correspondingly 12.5% (23.4% males and 1.4% females;
burden: 6.1 million) and 11.3% (21.4 males and 1.4 females; burden: 5.6 million). ...
In Iran 10,000–100,000 hectares are probably devoted to tobacco agriculture .

the prevalence of cigarette smoking in Iran ranges from 0.4% to 41% in various

subpopulations, both extremes correspond to the adolescence and in students. The
latest data of the prevalence of daily smoking in the whole country is 11.3% with no
significant change from 1991 to 2008.

This campaign started its work since 2009 , and its organizers were the medical
students of SBU ( Shahid Beheshti University ) , one of the best state universities in Iran
.

And it audience were mostly the young students and teenagers who were addicted to
ciggarates ,tobacco products .
the name of this campaign is ( NO to ciggaretes ) , and it still continues its activity .
this campaign has been succeed because of a little force that it put on addicted people .

The way of prevention of using tobacco products was stoping the shops and cafes of
universiyies and stores near universities from saling cigaretes and tobacco products .

By this way , addicted people rarely could find tobacco pruducts and if they found , they
had to buy them more expensive in some some special big chain stores .

In spite of the fact that this campaign was only in some small towns and mostly between
teenagers and young generation , but it has it great effect on them .
and the statics has been proved the fact that by this way and using some kind of
compulsion , a huge number of students has been stopped using the tobacco products
because of not finding them as much as before , or the expensive price of them in case
of finding them .
