Definition
Announcement text is one of short fungtional text. In english verb announce had a meaning “make a formal
declaration about fact, accurrence, or intention.” so announcement is an official notification about something, whether
written or spoken which presented to public.

Function
To give people some information of what has happened or will happen. We can find announcements in public places
such as school, airport, and shopping mall. Announcement can be in written or oral form.

Generic Structure
Announcements usually contain the following features
• The reader (for whom the announcement intended)
• The subject (what the announcement is about or the title) – optional
• The content (What it is about, where it is, when it is) etc)  The writer (who is responsible for the
announcement

COVID19 pandemic is getting worse. Government has decided to shut down all activities in public services,
including school. You are a principal. You announce the students that they are going to be sent home. It is not

is closed for two months.
