Customer Service Department is the front desk of any organization. It provides all
necessary information to the customers. For any organization, it is the main and most
important department which needs to deal with customer more than any department in the
bank. It is one of the busiest departments in the banks and it is the very place which makes
an early impression to the clients. The image and reputation of the bank depends upon
effective functioning of this department. It is the first place where the customers first get
the service. As different activities, such as;
 Dealing with Customers
 Handling Phone Calls

of hassle-free investing experience that involves neither the storage risk of paper
certificates nor the time consuming nature off offline trading.

6
2.1.2.7 Called customers for specific purpose
While performing authorizing the cheque, if the amount in the cheque is more than 10
lakhs then the phone calling to customers was to identify whether they had drawn the
cheque or not and if it is confirmed than the information was given to debit the amount
from their respective accounts.

2.1.3 Trading Department

This department was also one of the busiest department in compare of other department to
the stock market. The shares of a company are in general be transferrable from one
shareholder to another. This led to buying and selling of shares termed as trading. The
services was to Settlement trades by transferring/receiving the securities from/in BO
account. A stockbroker is investment advisor or simply, broker, is a professional individual
who executes buy and sell orders for stocks and other securities through a stock market, or
over the counter, for a fee or commission units.

Problems Identified in Trading Department

Different types of problem identified in the course of performing tasks assigned by this
department, such as:
 Software used by the department does not perform well, it gets slow and the work
does not go smoothly. They increase pending works.
 Due to the few scanner machine, scanning work took long time.
 Due to less number of officer level staffs in this department, authorizing for inward
cheques could not be performed in time.
 As we all interns were given responsibilities by our supervisor for guiding
customers while receiving Demat account opening form, but the customer
sometime disagreed to our guidance.

2.2 Internship Achievements

The eight weeks long internship program was definitely not sufficient to understand the
vast stock Broker work procedures and system but it was effective enough to learn the
importance of the proper organization cultures and its effect on the professional working
environment. Along with it, the internship program has made the intern believe that

7
socializing with the people, dealing with customer and the co-worker or a senior, making
the working environment friendlier. Some illustratable lessons learnt during the internship
program can be listed as below:

2.2.1 Behavior
Employee must possess highly positive attitude, multitasking ability, and patience
behavior. Courtesy and responsiveness are equally important traits in an employee. I felt
how the behavior of an employee can influence the way a customer reacts and gets his
work done.

2.2.2 Dedication to Work

Any task, whether it may be big or small, routine or strategic, should be performed with
great attention and dedication. There should be no space for negligence. Dedicated people
are the successful one. Working at the bank made me realize the importance of dedication
in whatever we tend to dream and make it happen at present or in the days to come.

2.2.3 Importance of Informal Relationship

Beside a formal relationship among employees, there is a great importance of informal
interpersonal relationship as it plays significant role in the workforce and is helpful if any
problem arises in the workplace. It increases friendly and helpful environment to work in,
increasing interpersonal socialization, increase motivation and dedication, and fulfilling
the social needs of an employee.

2.2.4 Using the Software

I learnt the general banking operations and services provided by bank and the use of BOSS
And operated it under the supervision of staffs of Sumeru Securities.

2.2.5 Handled New Problems

I learnt how to handle the new and unstructured problems aroused in the daily working
experiences and to make good relations with co-workers, seniors, corporate clients and
general customers.

8
2.2.6 Time Management
Working at the bank for those eight weeks along with attending my classes in the morning
and trying to be punctual made positive changes within me. Keeping our self-busy,
contended and punctual is what I learnt through my two months long internship program.

2.2.7 Communication and Interpersonal Skills

I gradually improved my communicating skills working there. The way of communication
of employees with the customers also made me to follow same type of communication with
the customers.

2.2.8 Networking
I got to meet a lot of new people, and they could help me get a full-time job after college.

2.2.9 Team Work

The internship has made me better in team working scenarios where I have to work as a
team member. Since most of the work in the stock broker were performed as a team, my
skills in this field have improved drastically.

2.2.10 Technical Knowledge

Devices like printers, fax machines, photocopiers and scanners are necessary for efficient
performing of stock broker. During my internship, I was able to learn how to utilize these
devices, which has improved my technical knowledge.

9
CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
3.1 Conclusion
Internship has been incorporated as an integral part of BBA-BI program, which provides
student an opportunity to familiarize with organizational culture and develop managerial
skills exposing oneself of the real-life functions of the business organization. The
internship period is an exciting phase of a student’s life. It is not just a requirement to pass
one’s exams and get a degree, but it is a period where one builds professional contacts,
learns the art of listening and observing.
It was a great experience being an intern in Sumeru Securities. I had a lot of opportunities
to learn about different aspects of the stock Broker. The stock market is one of the most
important industries in the economy as it enhances the economic activities of the country
as Sumeru Securities is quite medium Stock broker institution in Nepal. It has been
providing quality service towards its customer. It has contributed a lot toward the economic
development of the country through the network of its branches scattered in different parts
of the countries. It has also fulfilled the capital need for development of the industry, trade,
commerce by granting credit facilities. The excellent services and facilities given to the
customers play vital role before choosing the financial institution and proximity is also
another influencing factor. During internship period, I got an opportunity to gain an in-
depth knowledge of the banking sector. Internship favored me to get the practical
acquaintance of the bank and its overall operation system. I observed the functional
activities of DPS in depth as well as CSD in brief and understood the corporate culture.
Prior to internship, my knowledge was limited within the books. At Sumeru Securities pvt.
Ltd., I was fully guided by all the staff in acquiring the practical knowledge. It not only
provided me the experience of functional activities but also to let me know about the
informal organizational relationships. The internship added sense of responsibility to me
while performing any task. The experience of internship was incredible which boosted my
confidence level and enhanced my inter-personal communication skills. It developed
interaction skills and shaped up my personality too. Therefore, I am very much pleased to

10
conclude that Sumeru securities is one of the best Stock broker with friendly environment
and excellent customer service.

3.2 Recommendations
3.2.1 Recommendation to the Organization

After having great working experience as an intern in Sumeru securities and observing its
working environment and procedures, some area of improvement has been identified. The
major recommendations for enhancing its performance are:
 The Stock broker should increase more officer level staffs especially in Trading
Department so that they can perform their work in given time as it was seen less number
of officer level staffs for authorizing the Demat form and more pressure for individual
staffs too.
 The Stock broker software BOSS must be updated regularly, so that the work will not
be pending. Software must meet the customers demand and also should consider the
changing environment of financial sector. Technical error is seen frequently. Sometime
employees have to wait till night to complete their work.
 It was seen that in CSD, due to unavailability of staff, interns were kept there. Since
the interns do not have access to the password required for the applications, the
customers would be forced to wait or postpone their inquiries. It would be appreciated
if the bank would be able to manage staffs in the CSD.
 Sumeru securities should increase the number of investors in share market both within
and outside the valley so as to attract more customers towards the stock broker.
 Though at present Sumeru Securities is providing training programs to its employees
at a certain level, it should organize such programs on a regular basis so as to enhance
the skill and competency of staff.
 It was also seen that the customers had to wait for a longer period of time in the CSD
due to limited number of staff with which the customers were dissatisfied. Therefore,
Sumeru securities should also try to increase the number of
 Staff to minimize the waiting time of the customers.

11
3.2.2 Recommendation to the College
 The college has to consider the following factor to ensure the students go smoothly
Along with the internship plan:
 Internship and college examination should not be held during the same time, as it’ll be
difficult for students to manage the working hour and study hour.
 Students only get to go to the training once during their academic degree, which, in my
opinion, is insufficient for their practical experience to be improved. These types of
activities should be conducted more regularly.
