Halal and Muslim-Friendly Food in Taipei

BY NUR SHAZREENA ALI

TAIPEI: While Taoism makes up the most prevalent religion in

Taiwan, the Muslims community has only about less than two to
three percent of the population.

Widely dense by the Chinese population, little did writer knew that
Taipei is moving towards to provide more Muslim-friendly amenities.

Today, standing as the tenth of world’s tallest building, the iconic

Taipei 101 tower symbolises the modern Taiwan through its
architectural design of the building.

UP TO THE SKY WITHIN FEW SECONDS.

One of its best features is the high-speed elevator that can

whisk up from five to 89 floors in 37 seconds.

With top speed rate at 1,010 metres per minute, designing its
two high-speed elevators with atmosphere pressure regulatory
system was necessary to avoid discomfort of the high pressure
(the ‘ears popping’) to the occupants.

THE OBSERVATORY DECKS.

It was a notable experience when once arrived at the top floors.

From 89th to 91th floor, roaming on the observatory deck offers

visitors to enjoy spectacular scenery of the Taipei city, from
numerous tall buildings to the very heavens and earth view of
its panoramic leaning mountains.

Located at 382 meters level above the ground, the 89th floor
provides an incredible 360-degree indoor view of the massive
kaleidoscope surrounding.

Here, numerous facilities are also provided including free Wi-Fi,

multimedia guided tours via QR code, gift and souvenir stores,
and bars and restaurants.

At the top of skyscraper, one can experience the outdoor

environment. The 91th floor offers visitors to have a panoramic
view surrounded by the clouds at 508 metre level above the
ground.

THE DESIGN OF SUPER WIND DAMPER.

Of all its features, one thing that had caught into attention was
how this little tiny island of prone to countless earthquakes and
typhoons has been able to manage to construct one of the
tallest skyscrapers in the world.

One main feature to the stability of the tower is its mass ball
damper. The tuned mass damper of Taipei 101 is the key that
keeps this building to stand safely and highly secured.

Created and designed by C.Y Lee & Partners, this architectural

masterpiece is hanged between floor 87th to 92nd to stabilise
the tower from typhoon winds and earthquakes.
Measuring of 5.5 meter in diameter that made of 41 layers of
512.cm riveted steel boards thick, the 660 metric tons damper
ball allows the building to counter the effects of the strong
winds.

Along with its solid concrete elements for strong resistance, the
flexibility of the mass damper allows the building to move when
it get sways by the wind.

For example, when the building sways to one direction, the

mass damper will effectively minimise the severity of the sway
movement. This means that as the damper moves, the building
will move according to the direction of the wind.

With Anti-Earthquake Structural design, the building solidified

its strong wind resistance which comprising of 17 gale force
wind-resistant design along with the double layered glass
curtain wall which capable to cover up the whole area withstand
of 928,000 tons of force.

The Taipei 101 tower is also built with a stable foundation

surface that made of 380 piles, where half of the measuring of
each was piled into the ground.

Although Taipei 101 may no longer be the tallest building in the

world, its massive kaleidoscope building has opened the write’s
eyes on their hardworking culture that will continue to grow their
capability for life-survival.
