Tutorial 5-Tray tower absorber

CS2 is to be recovered from CS2-N2 gaseous mixture by scrubbing it with a solvent oil in tray tower
absorber. The gas mixture entering has a partial pressure of CS2 equal to 50 mm Hg. The gaseous
mixture is at 20°C and 1 atm, and flows at the rate of 500 m3/h. The CS2 content is to be reduced to
0.5 mol%. The absorption oil has a molecular weight of 180. The vapor liquid equilibrium relationship
at 20°C and 1 atm obeys Y=0.455X, where X is the mole ratio of CS2 to CS2 free solvent and Y is the
mole ratio of CS2 to N2. (a) Determine the minimum oil required. (b) determine the concentration of
CS2 in the solvent stream exiting the scrubber, if the actual solvent rate is 1.5 times the minimum
solvent rate .Determine the number of theoretical trays required for the separation in this case .
