The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) then compiles all the information gathered.

PSA calculates the average income and costs per hectare of growing the products, which
range from fruits, vegetables, root crops to fish, poultry and livestock.

PSA estimates averages for at least a dozen cost items, including cash and non-cash costs.

This link ranks various farm commodities based on their average net return per hectare.

Net return is the result when costs are deducted from gross revenues.

Here are the Top 10 most profitable products you can start growing now.

1 Onion Bulb

Average Net Return: 243,542

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 21.0%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 187.7%

There were 181,208 metric tons of onions produced locally in 2015. Pinoys consumed
194,672 metric tons, including imports, with an average consumption of 1.93 kilograms per
person in a year.

2 String Beans

Average Net Return: 229,339


Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): -77.2.0%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 187.7%

There were 13,754 hectares planted and/or harvested with string beans in 2016. This is a
0.39 % decrease from the year before where it recorded a total of 13,808 hectares.

3 Potato

Average Net Return: 181,643

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 12.1%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 133.5%

The Philippines had a supply of 138,506 metric tons of potatoes in 2015, with 86 % of
118,479 metric tons produced locally.

4 Carrots

Average Net Return: 171,723

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 18.2%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 224.0%

67,037 metric tons of carrots were produced locally in the 2015. 61,674 kilograms were
consumed as food, with per capita average of 0.61 kilograms per year.

5 Pineapple

Average Net Return: 166,030


Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 8.2%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 274.6%

Filipinos consumed pineapples the most in 2015 with an average consumption of 11.22
kilograms per head in a year. Among all commodities in the top 10, the Philippines exported
pineapples the most.

6 Tilapia

Average Net Return: 157,482

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 23.8%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 63.4%

Tilapia had the second biggest gross supply in 2015 of 311,727 metric tons. 43 metric tons
of these are imported, while 167 metric tons were exported.

7 Garlic

Average Net Return: 155,291

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 25.8%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 127.3%

About 87 % of the garlic that the Philippines consumed in 2015 came from other countries.
The Philippines only produced 10,420 metric tons in 2015 – only 13 % of the whole total
supply of 80,458 metric tons.

8 Cauliflower
Average Net Return: 147,066

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 13.1%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 171.9.0%

Cauliflower had the lowest average individual consumption rate at only 0.11 kilograms per
year. It also had the least gross supply at 11,866 metric tons.

9 Native Onion

Average Net Return: 131,582

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 24.9%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 111.9%

Filipinos consumed 194,672 metric tons of onions, including imports, with an average
consumption of 1.93 kilograms per person in a year.

10 Watermelon

Average Net Return: 171,723

Average Growth in Net Return (2003-2015): 18.2%

Average Net Profit to Cost Ration: 224.0%

The Philippines exported about 0.19% of its local production of 148,030 metric tons. The
Filipino’s average consumption of watermelon per head is 1.38 kilograms per year.
