Starter and battery life can be reduced, and sometimes immediate damage results from overcranking an engine (prolonged engagement
of the starter motor). The following is a list of limitations agreed to by all of Caterpillar's starter suppliers. High parasitic cranking loads
and/or incorrect engine oil viscosities may still cause starter damage even when following these guidelines. Even though machine
batteries will become discharged during this procedure and require boost-starting, the same guidelines apply.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 six times, for a total of seven 30-second cranking cycles.
5. Do Step 1 again.
6. Do Step 2 again.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 three times, for a total of four 30-second cranking cycles.
