Let's Teach English: Examples of Classroom Management

In this final appearance of Let's Teach English, we present a collection of
classroom management tools for teachers as well as the complete set of
teacher and students texts.

Thank You to Our Actresses

We are grateful to the hard work and patience of our actresses in these
videos. Some of the 'students' were international students and Voice of
America interns, who spent two weeks working with us and trying to keep
up with their other duties, too. Our teacher, Alice Bryant, contributed
many wonderful ideas for the series. We also wish to thank Leslie Opp-
Beckman and Linda Wesley, who edited all of the documents and course
materials, helped to write the scripts, and directed the filming.

Examples of Classroom Management

In our final video, we explain methods for managing your communicative
language classroom. These methods help you to group and organize
students, get feedback, reduce teacher talk time and “flip” your classroom

Learning to Play Scattergories

Scattergories is very easy to learn how to play because the directions are straightforward and
simple. You do not even have to have a table or a lot of room for a good game. The best part is
the game enables you to really use your mind and learn!

Unlike many of the popular board games, it does not rely on moving a game piece or collecting
cards to progress. Scattergories is all about exercising your creative thinking skills!

The game starts with the roll of a huge die with 20 different sides (certain letters of the
alphabet are not on the die because they are just too difficult). Four players have a specific
period of time to think of a word that fits each category and begin with the letter rolled.
Although this sounds really easy, it is harder than you may think...
Every word you choose has to be unique and creative because if another player
chooses the same word first, you do not get any points.

A good example is a topic is "Animal." If the first letter is "D," then "dog" will be a very common
answer. A more unique answer would be a dachshund or a dalmatian because the other
players are less likely to come up with these answers.

Learning how to think quickly and strategically will help ensure you score more points than
your friends!
