II. Define the following terms:

36-37. performance-based assessment

Performance-based assessment measures students' ability to apply the skills and knowledge
learned from a unit or units of study. It is also defined as testing that requires a student to
create an answer or a product that demonstrates his or her knowledge or skills.

38-39. affective domain

The affective domain involves our feelings, emotions, and attitudes. This domain includes the
manner in which we deal with things emotionally, such as feelings, values, appreciation,
enthusiasms, motivations, and attitudes.

40-41. portfolio assessment

Portfolio assessment is an assessment form that learners do together with their teachers, and is
an alternative to the classic classroom test. The portfolio contains samples of the learner's work
and shows growth over time. In portfolio assessment, the learners reflect on their own work.
The reflections should say something about why the learners have made the choices they have
made in the portfolio, and describe the method used to arrive at the final result.

42-43. criterion-referenced grading system

Criterion referenced grades are based on measuring a student against a level of performance,
not measuring one student against another student. Students are then able to demonstrate
their knowledge according to the predetermined objective/objectives.

44-45. norm-referenced grading system

Norm-referenced refers to standardized tests that are designed to compare and rank test
takers in relation to one another. Norm-referenced tests report whether test takers performed
better or worse than a hypothetical average student, which is determined by comparing scores
against the performance results of a statistically selected group of test takers, typically of the
same age or grade level, who have already taken the exam.
III. Answer the following questions.

46-49.What are the advantages and disadvantages of norm-referenced grading and reporting
systems?

courses that do not encourage cooperation
among students but generally stress
individual achievement.

50 -55. Discuss averaging method and cumulative method of computing final grade. Which
method is more advantageous to the students? Present your points and defend it.

A cumulative grading system is based on taking the number of points that a student earns and
dividing it by the total amount of points. This system is widely used in a traditional grading
setting. One thing to note is that grades are not generally weighted in this system.

An averaging grading system is based on the average of what a student receives over a set
number of items. This is more widely-used in a standards-based environment that is
proficiency-based.

In cumulative grading, the rubric tells the student how many points are needed for each grade
and they can choose to get them any way that they like, spread over the assignments, whose
totals are also known. Therefore with cumulative g
rading, the student always increases their points, where with percentage grading, each
assignment can get you closer or farther away from your goal so cumulative grading is
advantageous to students.
