Brake

In the first year, pedals were used as bought with no additional changes. The material of the
pedals used was steel. Also we had hand operated clutch. The pedals weighed about 2Kg. As
the car progressed into its second year, the pedals were designed and manufactured by the
team. The material used was mild steel. Also, the pedal box was adjustable back and forth in
compliance with the variable heights of the drivers. This was a major design improvement from
last year as it allowed flexibility in terms of choosing drivers. This time we had a foot operated
clutch. The pedals this time weighed 1.8Kg. Coming into its third year, there are some major
design changes being planned. Firstly, the material to be used for manufacturing pedals will be
Aluminium (6061 T6). This will reduce the overall weight of the pedal box and thereby reducing
the weight of the car.The pedals will weigh about 897grams and after including the steel
mounts it will weigh 1.5Kg.Incorporating new design changes in the pedal box will allow its
movement in three different mutually perpendicular directions. This will provide more flexibility to
the driver and will also improve the pedal ratio. It will be done to reduce the earlier required
effort and bring it to an optimum level. This year we are also planning to shift the position of the
master cylinder from the earlier, below the chassis position, to a new position above the chassis
and alongside the pedal box. This is done to avoid the possible damage to the master cylinder
in case of any accident or in an event of any major impact on the chassis. The safety of the
master cylinder is important as any damage to it will result in brake failure.
