ZERO

The most beautiful moment at the

beginning of time,
Was the present of presence,
tender and sublime.
At zero the circle is both
the start and the end,
All words and illusions
forever transcend.
Born each moment,
each moment is born,
Not a journey to end,
but an end to being old.

The Breath is new

The vision is new
The sound is new
New is in you

Avoid all the clamour, avoid all the noise.

See the silence of the moment,
Hear the vision unfold.

FIRE IN THE HOUSE
THE TRUE ARTIST
STEVEN GEDDES CHANGED MY PERSPECTIVE

On a hot summers day in July whilst walking down a high street

in East London …I encountered what I can only describe as an
artistic goldmine. I stopped in front of what seemed to be a café
with the most extraordinary art and paintings within it.

I became electrified by the visual sensations. To my left I heard

a voice that asked a question in a slight Scottish accent “do you
like it?”. Subconciously my response was “its absolutely sublime”
but I responded with a courteous “yes, its lovely.”

I was in a space of discontent and not sure of what I should be

focusing my energies on when the offer came to travel to the
studio in which these magnificent artefacts were created. I seized
the opportunity only to be given a piece of paper and some ink.

We talked and reasoned and found great synergy. I then left

with a clear objective in mind. My perspective for achievement
was set. Thank you Steven Geddes, in time you will know what
you did for me.
His work is prolific and different. It is absorbed / created with
diligence and is insightful, cultured and precise.

Treat the world to a Geddes, it will not go unnoticed.

The steps light, the physical intention predictable by

instruction, the shimmer of his hips reflecting in her
smile as she turns left then right and holds him tight
in a romantic embrace. The heat was mild and the
breeze soared into the air that night, two strangers in
search of the same thing would find the pulsing rhythm
calling them. If you haven’t experienced it, do so as
soon as possible, the sub genres are plenty and the
moves are getting more complex and refined, a
movement that is destined to stick around for another
100 years...........

Black Lives Matter…As Well

“You don't wear the crown just because you're Black.

Everybody in the world has a crown in place
That becomes their culture and their face.”

Stevie Wonder and Gary Byrd, ‘The Crown’

On December 4th, 1969, Black Panther Party deputy chairman

Fred Hampton was killed by police officers while he slept, by
point-blank gunshots to the head during a 4:45am raid on his
Chicago apartment. He was 21 years old. He will be
remembered as a gifted young man with a promising political
career ahead of him, but one of his most significant
achievements may well be overlooked. That of being co-
founder of the Rainbow Coalition.
Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party is quoted
as saying: “Working class people of all colours must unite
against the exploitative, oppressive ruling class. Let me
emphasize again — we believe our fight is a class struggle, not
a race struggle.” The Black Panthers worked within their own
communities because their communities desperately needed
defending. But they also encouraged other groups like The
White Panthers to do the same in their’s. Never in order for
one to be superior to the other, but for the common
advancement of Humanity.
As chairman of the Illinois chapter of the BPP, Fred Hampton
too recognised that the disparate groups and gangs that
existed in Chicago gained nothing from fighting themselves
and each other. He co-founded the Rainbow Coalition to bring
together Black communities as well as White migrants, Puerto
Ricans, Jews, the Women’s movement etc. The coalition
offered an intersection on issues of race, class, anti-war,
education, worker's rights, disability, gender and sexuality.
They acknowledged that their true common enemy was
Poverty and the unfettered economic system that kept
Poverty in place.

Flash forward to the use of Black Power iconography in the

popular culture of today. When Angela Davis and the female
members of the BPP wore afros it was a political statement
of self-acceptance, not a fashion statement. Can we truly
understand what the cry ‘Black Power!’ meant if we still don’t
have self-acceptance. When we believe respect comes from
outside of us and we try to gain that respect by showing how
much we can give to mostly White billionaire luxury goods
manfacturers? Fortunes built on the backs of the low-paid
workers of Asia? Do Asian lives matter? Yes, of course they
do! Do the lives of the unemployed of the more affluent
countries who have lost their jobs to the cheap labour of Asia
also matter? yes, of course! True self-acceptance and respect
goes along with being able to give it to others, even if we have
little in common.

Many in the Black Power movement of the USA looked beyond

whilst taking care for their own. We rise and fall together.
In the UK, we have been influenced by the American experience,
but our history is different. We live in a more tolerant society,
though the families of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence
and of Sean Rigg who died in police custody, might argue
otherwise. There are many struggling across the country. Polish
migrants are being targeted with abuse reminiscent of the 60’s
and 70’s, as are Muslims, even British-born. White British
working class people are under the same pressures of the fall
in wages and the housing crisis. Do Polish, Muslim and White
British lives matter? Yes, of course.
Some have told us that the way forward as Black people is
through gettng rich' and having designer labels and luxury
goods to show for it. But as Fred Hampton knew, that system
will always leave someone behind. We need solidarity and a
better life for all. Education, housing, jobs, fair wages,
healthcare, equal rights and more education! As Black Panther
Stokey Carmichael said ‘Study, children, study!’ Vote, get
involved! I can’t help you, if I am struggling. So, I improve my
own life. I strengthen my own self-acceptance and assert my
place in the World. I am Black and I am letting the racists know
that my life matters too, because I am Human too.

Bobby Seale said ‘All power to all people!’. If there is racism,

then not all lives matter. If all lives truly matter, then Black
Lives Matter…As Well!

RAISING AWARENESS OF MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH SONG

On Sunday 21 August, singer/songwriter, Melissa James staged a Big Sing at London's

prestigious RAK Studios in a bid to promote awareness of mental health and unite
sufferers of mental health illness through song. The singer called on anyone who
wished to do so, to join her in singing and recording her song LIVE AGAIN which is to
be released as a charity single, raising money for mental health charity SANE.

Twenty-seven keen participants arrived at the studio famously founded by the late
producer Mickie Most, to stand with Melissa and her line-up of professional musicians,
to sing backing vocals on Live Again encouraging togetherness and highlighting the
stigma, and other problems, surrounding mental health issues.

John Mager, one of the SING4SANE participants, said of the recording day, "I feel
privileged to have been a part, and it has left an indelible mark. What I found so
fascinating was that we arrived as 25 people without much of a connection, other than
our connection to Melissa. However, at the end of the recording, several hours later,
we were a cohesive group that hugged and embraced, with a thirst for more."
Melissa, whose song Live Again is based on her own experiences and first-hand
accounts of those she has witnessed with mind-related health struggles, had been
so moved by the support of those who joined her at the first SING4SANE event held
at Heathrow's Caffe Nero store in February this year, that it led her to try to organise
another. She also recalls a story of a man who came direct from LA to see her perform
a show in London so he could tell her how – at a point when he was seriously considering
taking his own life - her music saved him.
She says, “A story like that stays with you and makes you truly realise the positive
effect, and power, that music can have. When you combine that with a number of
voices coming together for no other reason than they believe in the cause and want
to sing to support it, it sends an incredibly powerful message. What I realised from
staging the SING4SANE Big Sing is that the people who stood alongside me did it
because they “got” what I was trying to do and that’s why they gave their time. I hope
now that the release of the SING4SANE version of Live Again as a single will also
encourage greater mind health awareness, more open talk of the importance of
mindfulness and of the healthcare of our minds.”

Live Again is due for release in October around

World Mental Health Day.

BE-LONGING –A SHORT FILM

Belonging is a short story of a young boy aged ten years old who
has been placed in care and is living in a foster home. Removed
from violent and chaotic birth parents after a series of family
breakdowns, he is torn between accepting the trust, kindness
and security of his foster family and remaining 'loyal' to his birth
parents who he still loves dearly.

Belonging shows this boy's journey from his very first day 'in
care' and charts his progress along the way. Mike McKenzie,
director, has been making films for over eight years. He and his
family have derived enormous satisfaction from fostering young
children and have experienced some real highs and lows. Mike
has been passionate about making a film such as this for a long
while and is looking forward to Be-longing’s release.
