ABSTRACT: This study was primarily concerned on the larvicidal activity

of the Bakauan-babae (Rhizophora mucronata) propagule extract on
common household mosquito larvae. It aimed to answer the following
questions: 1.) What is the larvicidal activity of Bakauan-Babae (Rhizaphora
mucronata) propagule extract against common household mosquito larvae
using the following concentrations? 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%. 2.) Is there a
significant difference in the larvicidal activity of Bakauan-Babae
(Rhizaphora mucronata) propagule extract against common household
mosquito larvae using the said concentrations? 3.) Is there a significant
difference in the larvicidal activity between Bakauan-Babae (Rhizaphora
mucronata) propagule extract and the commercially available larvicidal
agent on common household mosquito larvae? The study utilized
experimental design. Mean was used to determine the larvicidal activity of
Bakauan-babae (Rhizophora mucronata) propagule extract. Propagules of
good condition were washed with running tap water. The propagules were
air-dryed, homogenized using a blender, weighed at 750 grams and soaked
in 600ml of 95% ethanol for 24 hours. The propagule extract was filtered
and concentrated by boiling. It was then aspirated and then stored prior to
testing it to the larvae. Four concentrations of the extract were prepared:
100%, 75% and 50%, and 25%. Common household mosquito larvae were
the test organisms. The mosquito larvae were then exposed with the
bakauan-babae propagule extract with varying concentrations: 100%, 75%,
50%, and 25% concentrations respectively. Based on the result of the
study, the extract did not exhibit larvicidal activity against the common
household mosquito larvae. On the other hand, the commercially available
larvicidal agent should had a larvicidal activity. This implies that the
Bakauan-Babae propagule extract cannot be used as an alternative
larvicidal agent against common household mosquito. The ANOVA and T-
value could not be computed because the standard deviation of the groups
was 0. Thus, the significant difference between the larvicidal activity of the
different concentations of Bakauan-Babae propagule extract and the
commercially available larvicidal agent could not be determined.
