Remote Learning with Minecraft EE

First thing you need to do is make sure the latest version of Minecraft Education Edition is
downloaded.  Go to https://education.minecraft.net/get-started/download/
Choose the download for the appropriate device.
After installing make sure your firewall is set to allow Minecraft to be used in multiplayer.
Some people go to their firewall setting and turn it off others go to settings and then type in
firewall -Window Firewall- Allow apps and then scroll to Minecraft EDU and make sure the
firewall is clicked for private and public.  The link below also talks about how to make sure your
firewall is not white listing Minecraft.
Finally, when they login to Minecraft with their o365 credentials they will click play then click
on join world.

In our Teams we post the symbols they need to enter to join a world.  They put the symbols in
that order and they should connect.  Sometimes you have to reboot your router and wait 30
seconds to make this work if you are still getting connection issues.
Troubleshooting

1. Check your firewall settings, (start, settings, firewall, allow/deny) and make sure that
Minecraft EE is allowed (not restricted).

2. Restart your computer.

3. Restart your router (even if your internet appears to be fine) ask a parent to unplug your router,
wait 30 seconds and then reconnect it. This should take about 1-2 minutes.

4. Check your join code, make sure you’re typing in the right code.

5. If after all of this, ask a teacher for help. You may have to uninstall/reinstall your game. Here

Additional Resources/Setup for Teachers

If you are experiencing issues, you may have to follow the instructions outlined in this blog:
https://samuelmcneill.com/2020/03/19/remote-learning-with-minecraft-education-edition-across-the-
internet/

It is recommended that teachers use a cate 5 cable and connect directly to their router/modem for a
stronger and more reliable connection.

If you are still experiencing lag, try turning down some of your “fancy” settings while hosting. This will
not impact the users experience.
