T IPS E SSENTIAL FOR A VOIDING

F REELOADERS
1. Only befriend diligent students .
There’s nothing bad about having friends that are not as good
as you, but they can be jealous and may try to sabotage your
success. Instead, befriend brilliant students.

As well, if there are friends who have been manipulative from

the get-go but you didn’t realize it until now looking back, and
somehow they became your friend, the Firstclass You
demands that you cut them off. You’re better off without them
as they will only hold you back in your studies.

2. Steer clear of freeloaders.

If you decide to help freeloaders once, they will come back
and keep coming back for more and will eventually become
oppressive burden for you. I know you don’t want anything
that will topple your Firstclass attainments. Maintain a great
distance far from them!

3. Teach t hem to fish.

By constantly helping them, you’ve enabled their habit of
dependency on you. Every time you give and fulfill their
requests, it reinforces the fact that they can’t do anything
themselves. It’s not good for them. It’s better to teach a man to
fish than giving him a fish every day. You have no obligation
to give to those who refuse to sow themselves. They need to
learn to sow themselves.
4. Be frank!
Firstly, make it plain that they are heading toward failure (as
against being rescued by you). Suggest they take their studies
more seriously. Advise them to attend classes and seek help
from lecturers. They will not need to request your assistance
if they heed your advice. Doing this, you have already
indicated you are not going to rescue them, thus making it
tougher for them to ask for your help, and simpler for you to
say no.
