Based on air content, concrete is divided into 2, namely Air Entrained


Concrete and Non-Air Entrained Concrete. Air Entrained Concrete is used in
climates that have extreme temperature differences to accommodate the freezing-
thawing conditions of water in the air and inside the concrete, usually used in areas
with 4 seasons. The primary purpose of air entrainment is to increase the durability
of the hardened concrete, especially in climates subject to freeze-thaw.
Whereas Non Air Entrained Concrete is concrete used in areas with weather
exposure where the temperature difference is not too extreme, so there is no need for
large air content, example in Indonesia that has 2 seasons only.

On the table 6.2.3 ACI, used tables in the Non- Air Entrained Concrete part with
maximum aggregate size is 1 inch or 25 mm according on the job mix formula we
use, then the air content values obtained ranged from the number ± 1.5%.
