1. PURPOSE/SCOPE

The purpose of this method statement is to define the method to be followed MV Switchgear annual
maintenance test at site as agreed procedure and safety. The main purpose of planned preventive
maintenance is to ensure that all equipment required for protection is operating at 100% efficiency at all
times. As in personal healthcare insurance, maintenance may be considered the health care of our
manufacturing machines and equipment. It is required to effectively reduce waste and run an efficient,
continuous manufacturing operation or service operation..

2. SAFETY MEASURES AT SITE

Safety checks shall be made prior to commencement of work in order to ensure that materials and
equipments are in safe working order in accordance with project and site regulations.

GENERAL SAFETY MEASURES

 All activities are to be adequately supervised by an ADDC competent Engineer

 All Persons Must Wear PPE’s. Such as Helmets, Safety Shoes, Reflective
Vest.
 High Voltage Warning Signs and Boards to be placed wherever it’s necessary.

 Substation to be covered with danger tape while testing in progress.

 Check the Entrance/Exit Clearance at site

 Qualified Personnel to be allowed for Testing at Site.

3. EQUIPMENT & TOOLS

 Relay Test Kit

 Multimeter.
 Clamp meter.
 General Tools.
4.0 MAINTENANCE TESTING PROCEDURE
MV Switchgear operations must be coordinate with ADDC control Centre to ensure DE energize
and Energize of Supply. After Isolation following prechecks will be executed,

4.1 VISUAL INSPECTION CHECKS

 To check the mechanism and operation for proper function of breaker

 To check the panel earthing and equipment’s earthing on switchgear panels.
 To check the switchgear live line indications and operational indications.
 To check CT links (metering & Protection), CT wirings and ammeter readings.
 To check VT wirings and voltmeter readings.
 To check the relay wirings and readings by visually.
 To check panel announciation.
 To check the illumination circuits and plug points by visually.
 To check the LV Compartment by Visually.
4.2 CLEANING OF EQUIPMENTS:

 To check switchgear inside and outside of panels to clear the dust.

 Panel inside TB, CT Links, Meters and Relays are check for cleaning.
 To check all equipment’s for cleaning purpose.
4.3 MECHANICAL OPERATION:

 To check Manual operation for breaker.

 To check manual operation for Earthing switch.
 To check Breaker counter operation.
 Lubrication & greasing of mechanism
4.4 OPERATIONAL CHECKS

 Trip test of circuit breaker through the relays

 Operation of lock-out relays
 Operation check of earth switches
 Relay tripping check on feeders with secondary injection kit.
4.5 CHECK AND VERIFY THE ELECTRICAL MEASURED QUANTITY:

 To check protection relay tripping and measurement through secondary injection. Readings
will be verified after and before maintenance test.
 To check Relay final settings and update the required settings.
 To check protection relay fault records.
 Finally close all the covers and ensure all the equipments are in correct position.
