STT 34: Millimeter-wave Devices

Wireless communication is becoming increasingly popular with the number of

users constantly increasing, the demand for bandwidth is increasing, so a new
technology solution is needed to provide better data transmission speed. In addition
to fiber optic cables, millimeter wave technology is also a potential solution
equivalent in terms of bandwidth provision. Millimetre waves represent the RF
signal spectrum between 30GHz and 300GHz with wavelengths of 1 - 10mm.
Among them are 24GHz, 38GHz, 60GHz and more recently, 70GHz, 80GHz
bands have also been used for networking and radio communication. made with
Germanium silicon and silicon semiconductor technology at an inexpensive price.
Millimeter wave technology in some bands can provide a spectrum 10 to 100 times
wider than wireless networks operating with carrier frequencies below 6 GHz.
Besides, millimeter wave is also affected by the weather, which reduces the signal
during transmission, affecting the quality of use. But that is only a matter of time
for this potential technology in the future. The application of this technology can
be mentioned as: Wireless Metro Ethernet Networks, network infrastructure for
areas with lots of Great university for large businesses, redundant connectivity,
Cellular Network Backhaul, DAS - Distributed Antenna System, ...
