Underdeveloped Indonesian education

Indonesia is a country that has more than 217,512 schools, we have more than 45,357,157 students,
2,719,712 teachers. But we are also one of the countries with the lowest educational performance,
according to PISA (PROGRAMME FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ASSESSMENT) Indonesia is ranked
62nd out of 72 countries, we are very behind. Recent research from Prof. Lant Pritchett from Harvert
School, he specifically studied children in Jakarta who are 15 years old and it turns out that children
in Jakarta are 128 years behind compared to other countries.

Here we will discuss education in Indonesia with our guest speaker Muhammad Qandyas from
Pamulang University.

Host : Hello Mr.Qandyas

Me : Hello ....

Host: What do you think about education in Indonesia?

Me: In my opinion education in Indonesia is very behind that of other countries   in the fields of
mathematics, science and reading and this hasn't changed in a few years this last

Host : 128 years behind other countries, are you ashamed of this country and why did it happen?

Me: I could say this is very embarrassing for our beloved country, this is all because of quality
education in this country.

Host: When we discuss the issue of education, we of course not only discuss about the school but we
will certainly also discuss the teacher, how is the performance of Indonesian teachers?

Me: If asked about the performance of teachers in Indonesia, teachers can be said to be very lacking,
this is evidenced by the results of national teacher competency tests, where our teacher
performance nationally is 53 out of 100.

Host: What happens when the teachers who are supposed to teach us about education in this
country but suddenly can't do this well how is the solution able to study well?

Me: Usually people will look for private lessons

Host : Why private lessons?

Me: There are several factors that encourage students to do tutoring

Host : What factors do you mean?

Me: First is the factor of myself who cannot learn in school so they have to take private lessons,
secondly the teacher's factor that cannot deliver learning material correctly. such as providing
material or learning methods that are too fast by the teacher is very boring. but this private lessons
is not a perfect solution.

Host: why can you say that personal study is not the perfect solution yet?
Me: because in my opinion the cost of taking private lessons is not cheap, and will cause new
problems, namely the cost of taking private lessons. usually the average cost needed can be said to
be more than 5 million / year. With that price in my opinion it will be very difficult for some of these
Indonesians, because most Indonesians are in the middle economy class.

Host: then what's the best solution to catch up with our education in other countries?

Me: In my opinion, by increasing access to education, especially in this millennium era, technological
progress is very fast. so we can improve the quality of education in our country from both large
urban areas or even the smallest and most remote rural areas. With the increase in the quality of
education in this country it will lead to an increase in the economic sector in Indonesia.

Host : It means you think the government in Indonesia must increase access to education so
education in Indonesia is not far behind anymore, didn't it?

Me : yes.. that's right..

Host : yes Mr.Qandyas ... thank you for taking the time to discuss education in Indonesia.
