Patterns of child-caregiver attachment are extremely important for a
child's early emotional and social development. For children with an
insecure attachment, the parent/caregiver, who should be the
primary s ource of safety, protection and comfort, becomes a source
of danger or harm. Without the security and support from a primary
caregiver, babies and infants may find it difficult to trust others when
in distress, which may lead to persistent experiences of anxiety or
anger.
Mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety disorders,
have consistently been linked with child abuse and neglect,
particularly for adolescents. For example, the authors cited a l
ongitudinal study by Brown and colleagues which found that children
and adolescents who reported a history of abuse or neglect were
three times more likely to exhibit a depressive disorder than
non-maltreated children.
Prospective research studies have consistently shown that
maltreated children have lower educational achievement than other
groups of children (Gilbert et al., 2009). In a meta-analysis by
Veltman and Browne (2001), 31 of 34 studies (91%) indicated that
abuse and neglect was related to poor school achievement and 36
of 42 (86%) indicated delays in l anguage development.

Every children deserve and need a sense of security and comfort from
parent/caregiver. If their parents fail to meet the basic needs of the child,
the child very likely to develop an unstable emotional state and to have
difficulties with relationships such as peer relationships or even romantic
relationships. In comparison with the poem i annotated called "I hurt when
i look at you" by K.A.E Grove, the author talks about her detrimental r
elationship with her mother. I noticed that she was verbally abused and
neglected emotionally. In the poem, her mother who should be providing
