ADVISORY TO ALL STUDENTS TAKING DPSM UNDERGRADUATE SUBJECTS

2nd Semester 2019 - 2020

In its 1351st meeting on 21 May 2020, the UP Board of Regents approved the request of the
Dept. of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, CAS, UP Manila, for exemption from giving
numerical grades. The request was made for the following reasons: (1) only about 40 - 50 %
of the regular syllabi were covered prior to the suspension of classes, and (2) the course
requirements were adjusted so that these were limited only to topics that were given prior to
the suspension of classes.

The minimal adjusted requirements may be sufficient to warrant a “PASS” grade, but not
deemed acceptable for a numerical grade. A grade of 1.0, for example, based on a shortened
syllabus and adjusted requirements, is not comparable to a 1.0 based on the regular syllabus
with all requirements satisfied. Thus, the department faculty will be giving NON-
NUMERICAL GRADES ONLY for the 2nd semester 2019 – 2020.
