ACT I

Scene 1

CURTAINS: OPEN

Ominous music:

CIVILIANS take their places on stage. They go


about their daily lives, talking and doing
their jobs.
LIGHTS: RED AND BLACK

Suddenly, ROBBERS enter the stage, stealing the


CIVILIANS money, their personal belongings,
killing them and even taking them for ransom.
POEM #1
(is said as the ROBBERS take the stage)
Hope falls thin on everyone's hands,

And the cries of annhilation howl in the wind.

They who bore the righteousness of the world

Were the inoccents who walked through the


dainted city

After the poem, the ROBBERS and CIVILIANS


freeze for three seconds. After, they exit
STAGE LEFT and STAGE RIGHT.
LIGHTS: -FRONT LIGHTS: BLUE -BACK LIGHTS: YELLOW WHITE

SPOTLIGHT: PARENTS AND BABIES

From UPSTAGE CENTER are SAINT BENEDICT and


SAINT SCHOLASTICA's MOTHER and FATHER. They
walk to CENTER and hold their babies tenderly
and lovingly.
SPOTLIGHT ON PARENTS

Hopeful music plays: Humayo't Ihayag


2.

Enter DANCERS. They dance around the PARENTS


and the babies.

The PARENTS exit STAGE RIGHT.

The DANCERS then block the stage view in order


to prevent the audience see SAINT BENEDICT and
SAINT SCHOLASTICA enter.

The DANCERS dance for a few more seconds


before they exit STAGE LEFT and STAGE RIGHT.

The PARENTS hug their children and shows


affection before exiting STAGE LEFT, hand
in hand.
POEM #2
(SAINT BENEDICT AND SAINT
SCHOLASTICA hug and smile as the
poem is being said)
Yesterday went by a flash

Benedict and Scholastica grew up a sole

But diverging from each other was God's scheme.

SAINT BENEDICT
Farewell, my dear sister. I will venture forth to Rome
for my studies. I shall miss you very much.
SAINT SCHOLASTICA
Farewell, Benedict. 'Till we meet again.
The siblings hug and part ways.

BACKGROUND CHANGE: STAGE RIGHT; CONVENT - STAGE LEFT;


SCHOOL
The NUNS of the convent comfort SAINT
SCHOLASTICA as she cries over how much she
misses her family. After she calms down, they
walk UPSTAGE RIGHT to pray.

Meanwhile, SAINT BENEDICT goes to school accompanied with his


NURSE.

The NUNS and SAINT SCHOLASTICA exit STAGE RIGHT.

BACKGROUND CHANGE: SCHOOL

SPOTLIGHT: SAINT BENEDICT

POEM #3
(as this is being said, the bullies are
already entering the stage)

Enter BULLIES from STAGE LEFT. They are rowdy,


bragging about their wealth and fame. They
spot SAINT BENEDICT and try to convince him to
come with them. SAINT BENEDICT declines their
invitations and tries to walk away. The
BULLIES then call him loser and push him.

Luckily, SAINT BENEDICT's NURSE sees the


situation and scolds the BULLIES. She brings
SAINT BENEDICT to the APRON or DOWNSTAGE
CENTER. They sit down.
POEM #4
4.

NURSE
Benedict, I'm so sorry you had to go through that but
you are a remarkable student. Try to enjoy your youth,
despite all the problems you may encounter.
SAINT BENEDICT
How could I possibly enjoy my youth when what I seek
is not what others seek; I do not seek wealth or fame
but... God.
SAINT BENEDICT stands up and walks to CENTER.
His NURSE stands up but does not walk with him
and watches him.

The DANCERS enter once again and dance around


SAINT BENEDICT.
PRAYER
Lord,

BLACKOUT

CURTAIN CLOSE.
