Job Summary:

This is a Surgical Clinical Fellow position responsible for the acute and elective care of patients at the
surgical and cardiac unit of Cleveland Clinic London, comprised of general surgery, cardiothoracic
surgery and cardiology. The fellow would provide peri-operative care including operative assisting
opportunities under close supervision of the consultants. A suitable candidate should be competent in
the assessment and initial management of acute surgical patients. Fellows will gain clinical experience in
a variety of surgical specialties including hepatobiliary, upper GI, colorectal, urology and cardiothoracic
surgery and relevant innovative technologies such as minimally Invasive and robotic surgeries. The
fellow is expected to provide basic management of cardiac/cardiothoracic patients on the ward with
direct supervision of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons.

An ideal candidate would be a Specialist Registrar (ST3 and above) in General Surgery and holds relevant
certifications such as MRCS/FRCS or equivalent.

Health Informatics Fellowship Opportunity/Ambassador

Cleveland Clinic London is pioneering a parallel clinical fellowship model with a unique focus on hospital
activation work, EPIC electronic medical record software, and healthcare informatics. With the vision of
becoming the most technologically advanced hospital in the United Kingdom, we have reserved a
limited number of positions for fellows who have a keen interest in learning how to optimise and
leverage technology, specifically related to the EPIC electronic medical system and integrated clinical
applications. The fellow would be brought onboard in September 2020, prior to the 2021 opening to
take a deep dive into our electronic medical record system, and informatics strategies. From there, the
fellows would develop expertise in both technology and simulation and ultimately being at the forefront
as ambassadors to facilitate the integration of health informatic system within the organisation from the

labs.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical

Working as a part of the Surgical clinical fellow workforce covering an average fill of 25 beds of the acute
surgical ward.

 Working collaboratively with specialist consultants and nursing professionals to ensure that
patients’ treatment and care needs are met.
 Being a part of the rolling rota covering a 24-7 acute service in the surgical unit.
 Managing surgical patients who are undergoing general surgical operations such as colectomies,
hepatobiliary and urological procedures and neurosurgical operations including spinal surgeries
and craniotomies, under consultant supervision.
 Facilitating the management of cardiac/cardiothoracic patients including those are undergoing
cardiac procedures such as cardiac ablation, pacemaker insertion and percutaneous coronary
intervention and cardiothoracic operations including coronary artery bypass graft, valve
replacement and pulmonary resections.
 Leading and assisting with new admissions and inpatient consultations, including morning and
evening multidisciplinary ward rounds
 Proactively identifying patients who qualify for early mobilisation, are at risk for decline or may
have a longer length of stay

Taking part in clinical governance, education, training and research to continuously improve and strive
for excellence:

 Participating in the regular in-house learning sessions and other educational activities as well as
taking up educational responsibilities
 Adhering to the best practice guidelines, clinical audits, and governance.
 Active involvement in clinical governance meetings, including but not limited to mortality
review, safety event reporting, peer review, and other relevant activities.
 Continual commitment, and participation in mandatory trainings, including Epic electronic
medical record system.

CCL or the main campus in Cleveland, US. A tailored visit to main campus in Ohio will be
available to all Fellows appointed to these roles.
