APEDA
• Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development
Authority (APEDA) was established in 1986.
• The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council
(PFEPC).
• It is mandated with the responsibility of promotion and development of the
export of its scheduled products.
• Development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export,
Registration of persons as exporters, Fixing of standards and specifications,
Carrying out inspection, Improving of marketing, Promotion of export
oriented production and Collection of statistics are some of the major
function of APEDA.

• APEDA has marked its presence in almost all agro
potential states of India and has been providing services to
agri-export community through its head office, five
Regional offices and 13 Virtual offices.

NAFED
• National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India
Ltd.(NAFED) was established on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti on
2nd October 1958.
• Nafed was setup with the object to promote Co-operative marketing of
agricultural produce to benefit the farmers.
• The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation is implementing a Price
Support Scheme (PSS) for the procurement of oilseeds and pulses at the
Minimum Support Price (MSP) declared by the Government, through
NAFED, which is the central nodal agency for this purpose.

• NAFED is now one of the largest procurement as well as marketing
agencies for agricultural products in India.
• Its headquarters in New Delhi.
• NAFED plays a major role in stabilizing the prices.
• NAFED is also responsible for the procurement of pulses and
oilseed at MSP.

Directorate of Marketing & Inspection
• The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) was
established in 1935 to implement the agricultural marketing
policies and programmes for the integrated development of
marketing of agriculture.
• Its Head Office at Faridabad (Haryana).
• Branch Head Office at Nagpur (Maharashtra) and 11 Regional
Offices.
• Central Agmark Laboratory at Nagpur.

MANAGE
• National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management
(MANAGE) was established in 1987.
• MANAGE headquarter is at: Hyderabad
• Its an autonomous Institute developed by the Ministry of Agriculture
& Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
• Functions: Developing linkages between prominent state, regional,
national and international institutions, Developing and promoting
application of modern management tools, Organizing need based
training and Conducting problem oriented studies on agricultural
extension management.

NDRI
• 1923: Established in Bangalore as Imperial Institute of Animal
Husbandry and Dairying.
• 1955: National Dairy Research Institute came into existence at
Karnal, at the former Central Cattle Breeding Farm, Bangalore
facilities became Southern Regional Station of the Institute.
• 1966: Institute brought under the aegis of ICAR.
• 1989: The Institute granted “Deemed to be University” status.

National Commission on Farmers
• The National Commission on Farmers (NCF) is an Indian commission
constituted on November 18, 2004 under the chairmanship of Professor M.S.
Swaminathan to address the nationwide calamity of farmers suicides in India.

• Recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers: Land reform,
Reforms in tenancy laws, land leasing, distribution of ceiling surplus land
and wasteland, Prevent diversion of prime agricultural land and forest to
the corporate sector, Wherever feasible, landless labour households should be
provided with at least 1 acre per household, Establish a National Land Use
Advisory Service.

FCI
• The Food Corporation of India (FCI) was set up on 14 January 1965.
• Its first District Office was at Thanjavur – rice bowl of Tamil Nadu and
headquarters at Chennai (The Headquarters later shifted to Delhi).
• FCI has been divided into 5 zones viz. North, South, East, West & North-
East with a Zonal Office in each zone.
• The Food Corporation of India procures rice and wheat from farmers
through many routes.
• FCI by itself is not a decision-making authority; it does not decide
anything about the MSP, imports or exports. It just implements the decisions
made by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution
and Ministry of Agriculture.

CWC
• Central Warehousing Corporation was established during 1957 to
provide logistics support to the agricultural sector.
• CWC operates 432 Warehouses across the country.
• Its Headquarter is at New Delhi.
• CWC act as agent of the Government for the purposes of the purchase,
sale, storage and distribution of agricultural produce, seeds,
manures, fertilizers, agricultural implements and notified
commodities.

Kisan Call Center
◦ The Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC) launched KCC on January 21, 2004
across the country to deliver extension services to the farming community.
◦ Contact Number: 1800-180-1551 (from any Landline or Mobile) / 1551 (from BSNL
Landline).
◦ The Kisan Call Centre works on two levels. At the first level, replies/solutions are
provided to farmers’. At the next level, the queries are analysed so that area- specific
analysis can be done based on which timely information could be disseminated to farmers
through TV, radio etc.
◦ Service period:- 6am -10pm during working days except on Sundays and gazetted holidays.
Beyond these hours call are attended in IVR (Interactive voice response) mode
◦ KCCs are operate in 22 languages.
