3. wet-suite will a great investment, amazon sold a lot of good Supervisor wants SF to make pandemic
wet suit and 4/3 should be good enough for north cal. eviction protections permanent. Should
it?

Get a 4/3 wetsuit you won't NEED booties until the winter but they are helpful if you really don't enjoy cold
feet or walking barefoot on rough pavement or rocks bottoms.
The main thing as a beginner is to not get in others people way pissing off a local or anyone or not fun. Always
hold onto your board Try not to ditch it when going over a wave or white water. The key to improving is
spending time in the water, the only way to get better at surfing is spending time in the water you will learn
how to read the ocean and anticipate waves.
I've never taken lessons I've been surfing about a year. If you find them helpful maybe take a few more to
learn the basics but just get in the water as much as possible. If you have a buddy who surfs ask to go surf
with them they can give u pointers and look out for you.
And have fun, surfing is about fun and it seems like alot of the people in the lineup aren't having fun but just
enjoy yourself. The learning curve is steep so expect it be challenging.

I’m new to the area, so I don’t really know anyone that surfs rn. Is it hard to make friends in the lineup?
And how do you get through the whitewater without getting thrown around?

Some people are nice some are not. Just be friendly and try to read the vibes I geuss.
You have a few options to get through the white water. Duck diving is the coolest and most efficient
way but unless your on a board under 7ft long its not worth the effort/effective. Turtle rolling might be
your best bet, I have never done it myself but it's a good strategy on long boards. For most white
water you can just paddle into it and push your down and go through it, think about having the water
go between you and your board, this is how I paddle it 85% of the time.
If a big wave just crashed right in front of you you can push your board to the side and duck under
yourself and grab your board when you resurface, this should be a last resort because you run the risk
of your board hitting some one or getting in the way of someone, don't make it a habit but sometimes
it's really the only the option so just make sure no one is nearby when you do it. If your in this
situation often then you should find smaller waves.
Your bound to get thrown around a little bit but it's alot more respectable to get thrown around while
holding your board then to ditch it and have it come close to hitting someone.
When you do get in someone's way or mess up someone's wave always give a sincere apology, they
might still give you the stink eye but it is important.
