1.2 Introduction
The purpose of this function is to handle raising and ceasing of alarms which
notify the operator of events occurring in the Network Interface - Ethernet
(NWI-E).

Function

2 Function

2.1 Overview
The function transforms the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Inform Requests received from NWI-E into the standard AXE alarms.

The following NWI-E events trigger the alarm function:

• A Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) protocol session has stopped

working.

• A process exceeds Central Processing Unit (CPU) usage threshold

configured on NWI-E.

• At least one NWI-E port is not working.

• An NWI-E system event occurs on the Base Station Controller (BSC)

Internet Protocol (IP).

• The NWI-E equipment becomes overheated.

When alarm data changes the corresponding alarm is ceased and raised again
with the new data presented on the alarm printout. The function is handled by
NWI-E alarm handler which resides in the APG.

NWI-E must be configured to generate SNMP Inform Requests towards the

APG, see Reference [2].

APG must have Reliable Public Interface enabled. For more information on
how to enable this functionality, see Reference [1].

2.2 BFD Session Fault Alarm

2.2.1 Initiation of Alarm

This alarm is raised when a BFD protocol session is not working because of
problems with NWI-E port or a broken cable.

2.2.2 Alarm Handling, BFD Session Fault

The alarm is raised when at least one BFD protocol session has stopped
working.

If all BFD protocol sessions are in working states, then there is no alarm raised
on the BSC.

1/155 17-ANT 330 02 Uen C | 2017-05-17 3

Handling of NWI-E Related Alarms

When the last not working BFD protocol session becomes active, the alarm is
ceased.

2.3 CPU Load Supervision

2.3.1 Initiation of Alarm

This alarm is raised when a process exceeds the CPU use threshold configured
on NWI-E.

2.3.2 Alarm Handling, CPU Load Supervision

The alarm is raised when at least one process exceeds the CPU use threshold
configured on NWI-E.

If there is no process exceeding the CPU use threshold, then there is no alarm
raised on the BSC.

When all processes have load below the CPU use threshold, the alarm is
ceased.

2.4 Port Fault

2.4.1 Initiation of Alarm

This alarm is raised when at least one NWI-E port is not working.

2.4.2 Alarm Handling, Port Fault

The alarm is raised when at least one NWI-E port is not working.

If all NWI-E ports are working, then there is no alarm raised on the BSC.

When the last not working NWI-E port becomes working, the alarm is ceased.

2.5 System Event Supervision

2.5.1 Initiation of Alarm

This alarm is raised when one of following NWI-E system events occurs on the
NWI-E:

• Cold start has been performed on NWI-E.

4 1/155 17-ANT 330 02 Uen C | 2017-05-17

Function

• Warm start has been performed on NWI-E.

• Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) master change has been

performed.

• NWI-E health check has failed.

• Invalid NWI-E logon attempt.

2.5.2 Alarm Handling, System Event Supervision

The alarm is raised when an NWI-E system event occurs on the NWI-E.

If there are no NWI-E system events, then there is no alarm raised on the BSC.

The alarm is always automatically and immediately ceased.

2.6 Temperature Supervision

2.6.1 Initiation of Alarm

This alarm is raised when the BSC IP NWI-E equipment becomes overheated.

2.6.2 Alarm Handling, Temperature Supervision

The alarm is raised when the NWI-E equipment is overheated.

If the NWI-E equipment is in normal temperature range, then there is no alarm

raised on the BSC.

When the NWI-E equipment stops being overheated, the alarm is ceased.

3.4 Printouts
The following printouts are provided:

• BSC IP NETWORK INTERFACE BFD SESSION FAULT

This alarm printout is issued when a BFD protocol session has stopped
working.

• BSC IP NETWORK INTERFACE CPU LOAD SUPERVISION

This alarm printout is issued when a process exceeds CPU use threshold
configured on NWI-E.

• BSC IP NETWORK INTERFACE PORT FAULT

This alarm printout is issued when at least one NWI-E port is not working.

• BSC IP NETWORK INTERFACE SYSTEM EVENT SUPERVISION

This alarm printout is issued when a new system event occurs on the
BSC IP.

• BSC IP NETWORK INTERFACE TEMPERATURE SUPERVISION

This alarm printout is issued when the NWI-E equipment becomes

overheated.

alarm A printout informing the operator that an abnormal

situation is present in the BSC or BTS. The alarm
contains information on the affected object.

Adjunct Processor Group (APG)

The APG is the high capacity IO system for AXE
exchanges. The APG is a platform for O&M
communication applications and secure data storage in
fixed and mobile telecommunications networks.
