RIPSTAR® 121

RIPSTAR 121 is a three component, solvent free, modified epoxy resin mortar which when mixed yields a
mortar which is highly impervious & provides high resistance to both mechanical & chemical loads.

Specification:
The high build, chemical & abrasion resistance epoxy lining mortar shall be RIPSTAR 121, complying with
ASTM C881 Type I, Grade 3, Class B & C. It shall be formulated to achieve adhesive bond strength with
concrete substrate exceeding the inheriting tensile strength of concrete substrate; with compressive strength
in excess of 60 MPa at 7 days. The epoxy liner must have been formulated keeping aggressive environments
such as sewerage & industrial. RIPSTAR 121 must have passed 180 days immersion test in diluted sulfuric
acid at 40°C.
RIPSTAR 121 has excellent chemical resistance to the following:
Dilute mineral acids, alkalis, salt water, chlorinated solvents, sewage & wastewater environments.

Uses:
 It is recommended for use as adhesive mortar, patching and repair mortar and as bedding mortar.
 Repair effluent drains and wastewater drains.
 As a base for coving.
 Lining and benching of manholes.
 Wall lining in wastewater handling structures.
 Lining sewer lines.
 Bedding of fixtures, tiles and stones.
Advantages:
 High bond strength – durable repairs.
 High elastic modulus ensures effective load transfer at bond interface.
 Nontoxic – permits its use in potable water tanks.
 High non-sag thickness allows high build on vertical surfaces.

Typical Properties:
Appearance Off-white screed
Mixed density 2 kg. /Lit.
Mixing Ratio, by weight 7.4 (B): 3.7(H) : 88.9 (F)
Pot life 60 Minutes at 25°C
20 Minutes at 40°C
Setting time 6 Hours at 25°C
Compressive strength (ASTM C579) 20 MPa at 24 Hours
60 MPa at 7 Days
Full cure 7 Days
Adhesive bond strength to concrete (ASTM D4541) > 2 MPa at 7 days (Substrate failure)
Flexural strength (BS 6319, Pt 3) >20 Mpa at 7 days
Tensile strength (BS 6319, Pt 7) >10 Mpa at 7 days

Packaging:
RIPSTAR 121 is available in 5 kg., three component pack consisting base, hardener & filler.

Coverage:
The consumption is dependent on the roughness of the surface, loss and wastage. One pack of 5 kg yields 2.5
lit. Volume & is sufficient to cover 0.5 m2 at the 5mm thickness, on fair-faced substrate.

Curing:
RIPSTAR 121 is self-cure. No additional curing is required.

Application procedure:
Temperature Requirements:
Substrate temperatures: 150C – 350C; while material temperatures: 150C – 300C
Very low or very hot temperatures will make application more difficult and careful consideration should be
given to storage of materials. In the cold weather conditions, pre-condition materials by keeping it in a heated
room. In hot weather conditions, some form of air-conditioned storage is required. Pre-conditioned materials
at 20-250C will reduce the possibilities of flash/slow setting and other defects.
Surface preparation:
Surface should be structurally sound & clean. Remove all loose particles, laitance, dust, oil, grease, wax, curing
compound, mold release agent & other contaminates etc. prior to application of RIPSTAR 121.
Mixing:
Empty the Hardener to Base and mix using drilling machine (300 to 400 rpm) fitted with a paddle. Add the
filler component and mix for 2-3 minutes to lumps free smooth consistency.
Placing:
Before application of RIPSTAR 121 prime the prepared surface with SPLANDEK 2100. Leave it for
approximately 1 hr. to go tacky before placing the mortar.
For bonding: Apply RIPSTAR 121 using trowel to a thickness of 1mm to 3mm depending on the job.
For deep irregularities: Firmly trowel the mortar paste to fill in the deep irregularities, and finish to a smooth
surface.

Storage and Shelf life All:

Store under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect from extremes of temperature. In tropical climates the
product must be stored in an air-conditioned environment. Shelf life is 12 months when stored as above.

Safety precautions:
As with all chemical products, care should be taken during use and storage to avoid contact with eyes, mouth,
skin and foodstuffs (which can also be tainted with vapor until product fully cured or dried). Treat splashes to
eyes and skin immediately. If accidentally ingested, seek immediate medical attention. Keep away from
children and animals. Reseal containers after use. Do not reuse containers for storage of consumable item
