Poem Creative Project – ​Updated 6/8

This is a unique moment in history. ​The Covid-19 pandemic and the George Floyd racial justice protests​ have
impacted all of our lives, and the lives of our families, in different ways. We are going to record that together by
writing our own poem. This poem should reflect your experience over the past few months. Write a poem about
your experience with Covid-19 OR the racial justice protests. ​

N​OTE: ​This is a planning document to help you get organized. ​You do not need to turn in this document.

Haiku
A haiku is a style of Japanese poem with 3 unrhymed lines. The syllable pattern is 5/7/5. There is usually a
reference to nature in a haiku.

Free Verse
Free verse poems do not have a set rhyme scheme. They are usually written with vivid imagery that engages
the senses.
