We use to decide a preference when making a choice among different options.

After an invitation you can decide to to another thing.

Would Rather

SUBJECT + [WOULD RATHER + BARE INFINITIVE] + COMPLEMENT

(+) I’d rather go to the disco.

( -) I would rather not go out tonight.

Would Prefer

SUBJECT + [WOULD PREFER + (TO+ INFINITIVE)] + COMPLEMENT

Usamos estas frases para indicar que prefieres otra opción a la sugerida o a la dado
en algún contexto. Recuerden que would rather es lo mismo que would prefer. La
diferencia está que después de would rather va el infinitivo sin “to” en cambio
después de would prefer va el infinitivo con “to”.
