1. Marlon, a 23 year old male with bipolar disorder went to the doctor for his monthly check-up.
He is currently taking drugs for his condition, but he is more concerned about one of his
medication causing him numbness. A laboratory result came out and a low sodium content
was found.
A. What drug causes him numbness?
 Drug that causes his numbness is Asenapine because the longer term (months or
years) because the longer you take the more likely you develop

B. What drug causes him low sodium content?


 Drug that causes him low sodium content is Paroxetine. It contain serotonin that lower
effect of diphenylhydantoin that  leads to a reduction in posttetanic potentiation at
synapses, an inhibition of repetitive firing of action potentials and ultimately inhibits the
spread of seizure activity.

C. What is the mechanism of action of this drug?


 The mechanism of action of this drug is most potent CYP2D6 inhibitors. It is a substrate
for and an inhibitor of this isoenzyme. Paroxetine has nonlinear pharmacokinetics, this
means that higher doses can produce disproportionately greater plasma drug
concentrations as the enzyme becomes saturated. By inhibiting CYP2D6, paroxetine
has the potential to increase concentrations of tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazines
and type 1C antiarrythmics.

 It should be taken one a day
 It should be taken before bedtime to avoid engaging in an accident because it causes sleep.
