1.1 Overview
Performance Management System Overview
This chapter describes the concepts, the principles related to measurement task
management, performance data query, performance threshold management in the USPP
system, and the performance management flows in different cases.
The OMM of the ZXUN USPP is built on the COMMV4 platform and supports the B/S
structure. The performance management system is integrated into the OMM, which
collects and stores performance data based on performance measurement tasks that
users create. Users can also customize KPIs on the basis of counters, or set KPI
thresholds so that an alarm will be raised if a KPI reaches its threshold.

l Calculation Index
l Query Granularity
Query granularity refers to the cycle to query performance data. Available options
include 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 1 day. The query granularity
must be equal to or longer than the collection granularity.
l QoS
QoS is a security mechanism of the network to solve network delay and congestion
problems. In case of network overload or congestion, QoS ensures that important
services are not delayed or discarded; meanwhile, it guarantees the effective
operation of the network.

Navigation Tree
The navigation tree on the left side of the Performance Management tab page is
a relationship tree consisting of NE locations and measurement object types. The
navigation tree consists of three levels of nodes:
l The first level contains two nodes of measurement object categories, which are
Bureau Measurement and Admin Domain Measurement.
l The second level contains nodes of measurement type categories, which show you
the category information of measurement types related to ZXUN USPP.
l The third level contains nodes of measurement types, which show you the type
information of measurement objects.
You can also easily search for a specific measurement type by typing the key words of the
measurement type in the filter text box above the navigation tree.
Shortcut Buttons
In the right pane of the Performance Management tab page, the Measure task
Management tab, the Measure type information tab and the Threshold Management
tab are displayed. There is a special tool bar on each tab. Table 1-1 explains the shortcut

Note:
In the measurement task operation procedure, you can also create a calculation index
after you create a performance task and before you query the measurement task data.
Overview
This chapter describes the operations related to measurement tasks. Detailed operation
descriptions are as follows.
Operation Description
Creating calculation indices You can create customized calculation indices which meet your
requirements on measurement of specific network performance.
Searching for calculation You can view counters and calculation indices contained in the
indices measurement type to check if the calculation indices required for
creating the measurement task exist. If they do not exist, you can
create them.
Creating measurement tasks You can create rules for measurement tasks so that the foreground
system of the NE collects data according to the rules.
Other related operations You can activate, deactivate, modify, delete and export the created
measurement tasks.
Querying Statistical Data You can query and export the data collected through the
measurement tasks.
The last section of this chapter gives an example of creating and querying a specific
measurement task, which helps you to understand the procedures of measurement task
operations.
