Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Good afternoon, class! Good afternoon, teacher!

How are you this afternoon? We are fine, teacher!

Okay. It’s good to hear that from

you.

This afternoon, we will have an

activity with regards to the novel we are
reading in these days. But before that,
let me know first who are absents for
today, class secretary. None, teacher.
Very good! All are present for
today’s class.

Last meeting, we had started

reading one of the American novels
titled The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
However, because of its length, we
were not able to finish reading it. We
only ended up in chapter one, that’s
why I had given you a home reading
about the second chapter of the novel. I
hope that you had read and analyzed it
well. Did you? Yes, teacher!

Well, if you have read it well, then

prove it to me through answering
comprehensively the questions i will be
throwing to you.

A. Analysis

Processing Questions

1. Who talked dirty and embarrassed

the girls? Dally, sir.

2. Why do you think Dally act that way

to the two girls? Because the two girls are Socs, sir.

3. Did Dally do the right thing? No, sir because as a man you should
have to respect every girl in this world
regardless of economic status,
intellectual capacity, beauty and talent.

4. Who do you think was the best

person among the three who are
Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally during that
time? Why? I guess, it was Ponyboy, sir because he
had talked to the Socs girls and for me
that is a sign of respect and a proof that
Ponyboy do not observe economic
discrimination. He is such an open-
minded man.

5. Cherry told Ponyboy that not all Socs

(rich people) are violent, do you agree
to Cherry’s statement? Yes, sir. Not all Socs are violent. We
should not generalize people for each
of us is different from one another.
Experiences shape us, so maybe those
violent Socs had these experiences in
the past that were not pleasant that is
why they are acting so violent
nowadays, but as a human with
education, i guess the best thing to do
is to understand them; at the same time
let make us make them realize that
their deeds are not right through
peaceful way.

Okay! Very good, class! It seems

like you had really understood the
chapter of the story.

After reading the story class, what

local story popped up in your mind that
has the same theme in the chapter
you’d read? Walang Panginoon by Deogracias
Rosario, sir.

What is/are the similarity/ies of the

chapter you’d read and the short story
here in the Philippines? Both of the literary texts discuss about
the situation and social atmosphere
between rich and poor.

Now class, can you give the

difference of the two texts? The second chapter of The Outsiders
stresses that even how strong the
social barrier between rich and poor is
built, there will always be instances that
these two classes of people will interact
to each other and discuss things that
could somehow make them feel that
they are only watching the same sky
everyday. On the other hand, the
literary text, Walang Panginoon
discusses how strong the conflict of
rich and poor is; that they could end up
to killings just for justice and revenge.

Do you have other idea regarding

the difference of The Outsiders and
Walang Panginoon? The Outsiders is a foreign literary
piece, while the Walang Panginoon is a
local story here in the Philippines.

Very good, class! You were able to

relate the foreign story to our local story
here. That is a sign that you are really
reflective learners.

Now, at this point of time I want you

to get your copy in chapter two of the
novel The Outsiders because at this
moment, we will have an activity called
as “Choosing an Interpretation”.

The class will be divided into three

groups according to the color of your
name tag. This side will be the Red
Supernova. Sitting opposite to Red
Supernova is the Blue Horizon, and at
the back of Blue Horizon will be the
Yellow Aurora. Please proceed now to
the designated area of your team and
form a circle.

I will be giving you series of

interpretations on the chapter two of
the novel The Outsiders. The only thing
you will do is to choose three
interpretations and arrange it in order of
importance. Afterwards, a
representative from each group will
read the three interpretations being
chosen. After reading it, your group
must choose from the three
interpretations being chosen one
interpretation that is nearest to the idea
of your group, or you can make your
own interpretation.

However, your task will not only end

by that because you will have a
corresponding activity to be performed
in relation to the final interpretation of
your group.
I have here an Activity Map and an
Activity Dice. Now, I want a
representative from each team to roll
the dice to the Activity Map to know the
corresponding activity of your group.
For example, if the dice landed on the
Poster Making Cubicle, your group
must have to draw your interpretation.
The presentation will follow right after.
The rapporteur/s must have to explain
the interpretation chosen by the group.

Remember class that you will be

graded according to this performance
standard:

Organization - 25%
Content - 25%
Creativity - 25%
Presentation - 25%
Mechanics --------
100%
Yes, sir!

Are all instructions clear, class?

(The group will be rolling the Activity

Dice to the Activity Map to determine
the group’s corresponding activity)

Okay class, let’s read now the

series
1.Poorof are
textonly
interpretations.
for poor and rich are only for rich.

2.Equality is the best key to promote unity.

3.Economic status is the great barrier which causes great conflict between
rich and poor.

4.We should have to treat people equally.

5.Rich people deserve to be bullied for they are oppressing the less fortunate.

6.If there is love of one another regardless of economic status, then there will
be peace.
7. There should be rich and there should be poor in this world because
without this concept, there will be no competition.

8.We are only seeing one sky, thus no one is under the belt nor superior.

Let’s give now the floor to Team Red

Supernova for the reading of their
interpretations.

Now, let’s hear the ideas of Team

Blue Horizon.

Let’s have Yellow Aurora for the

reading of their interpretations.

Okay, this time choose one

interpretation that is nearer to the idea
of the group or create an own
interpretation about the text read to be
expressed to the assigned activity you
had chosen as you rolled the dice in
the map.

I will only give you three minutes to

do the task. Your time starts now!

(Students are working in the assigned

task)

Okay! Time is up! Let us settle

ourselves now and witness as each
group presents their creative
presentation on the interpretation they
had opted.

Let us give now the floor to Red

Supernova.

Thank you Red Supernova. Blue

Horizon and Yellow Aurora give Red
Supernova a “Perfect” clap.

At this time, let us witness the

presentation of Blue Horizon.
Thank you Blue Horizon. Red
Supernova and Yellow Aurora, let us
give Blue Horizon an “Amazing” clap.

The last but not the least, the Yellow

Aurora.

Thank you Yellow Aurora. Red

Supernova and Blue Horizon, let us
give Yellow Aurora a “Wonderful” clap.
