a. What positive behaviors could you identify in the way you communicate? 

I try to always be aware of the other person’s feelings and/or thoughts and I almost always
ask for their input when having a discussion. It is difficult for me to say something in a way
that might hurt other people.

b. What behaviors of yours do you feel need improving?

Sometimes it is difficult for me to communicate issues that I have with other collaborators.
Due to the nature of work and the relationships that we often establish, it is common for me
to be unable to face people that I consider to be close friends.

c. How do you think your way of communicating affects people and results?

Due to my reluctancy to face my close colleagues and signal their mistakes sometimes I
might seem to be an unfair leader, like someone who has favorites while working on a team.
This is always detrimental to any teamwork in any kind of environment.

d. What factors do you think influence the way you communicate with others?

The fondness I develop with my teammates, my sense that everyone is sufficiently


responsible to know what to do and fear of damaging lasting relationships due to feedback.

e. What conclusions can you make based on these observations that will allow you to
improve your communication as a leader, both in the work environment and in your
personal environment?  

The DESC script can actually be very helpful for me when facing a rogue or irresponsible
teammate that is also my friend. I think that involving the four aspects of the script while
having a feedback meeting can make things easier for me as a leader.
3.- Choose a behavior you think you can improve and propose 3 actions to achieve it.

Behavior: Setting aside time to talk assertively with my colleagues in a clear respectful way.

Actions:

 Establishing a weekly meeting to get quick and direct feedback, no more than 20
minutes.
 Develop a rubric in which specific behaviors are evaluated from each one of the
teammates.
 Come up with a standardized DESC script for the first 3 meetings in order to get used
to communicating in an assertive and respectful manner.
