BREAST CARE

Definition: Care rendered in preparation for breastfeeding

Materials :

A lined tray containing: a jar/bottle of clean cotton balls lukewarm water in a container
kidney basin/small bowl waste container.

PROCEDURE RATIONALE
1. Explain the procedure
to the patient.
2. Prepare the necessary
materials and perform
medical handwashing.
3. Bring materials to the
bedside and screen the
patient.
4. Expose one breast and
spread the towel below
it properly, at the same
time inspect for
presence of rashes, skin
irritation, redness and
other abnormalities.
5. Get one cotton ball,

basin or bowl and pour
lukewarm water.

from the nipple to the
areola in a circular
pattern. Discard cotton
ball. Repeat this step

thoroughly clean.
