I want to thank everyone who actively participated in the FUMSA GA on behalf of the GUMSA
fraternity, may all your efforts be rewarded by the Almighty Lord. We left Gulu for Kampala
on the 29th of March at 11pm, being received by the makerere team at 5am the following day
who later led us to our areas of residence. FUMSA held its meeting from 30 th march to 1st
April at Makerere University [MAIN BUILDING] under the theme “EQUITABLE, AFFORDABLE
AND QUALITY HEALTH CARE FOR ALL”
The General Assembly that attracted over 200 delegates from the 8 member medical
Schools, President of Medical Students Association of Rwanda (MEDSAR) and other
International delegates was officially opened by Dr. SABRINA KITAKA who made welcome
And opening remarks on behalf of MCHS, Makerere University Administration and UMA.
Sessions were facilitated by technocrats, different medical and legal specialties. We
had a delegation from UMDPC led by the Registrar Dr Katumba and UMA who took the
Medical students through medical professionalism and medico-legal ethical issues. We
had sessions on effective leadership by Prof LUBOGA, a DR JOHN KULE
(RIP)MEMORIAL lecture by Dr Scott Myhre- in memory of his role and Dr LUKWIYA in the fight
against Ebola and Medical practice in the private sector by Mrs. Grace Kiwanukathe
ED Uganda Health care foundation.
There were also sessions on CV and motivation letter writing and Role of medical
Students in achieving Universal Health care by Dr Sabrina Kitaka (Pediatrian and patron
MUMSA) and Mr. Chris Wallace- Ass Regional SCOPH director for IFMSA. During FUMSA
Standing committee sessions, students were exposed to Reproductive Health care
packages and Reproductive Rights, role of medical students in promoting Human Rights
and peace and how to combat Non communicable diseases through Public Health
interventions.
3. Approval of HABIBU medical students association [HAMSA] as the host for this year’s
annual medical Quiz to be held in September at IUIU Kibuli Medical campus.
After closure of the meeting on Sunday afternoon, students had a Team Building outing to
Katomi Kingdom Resort Beach in Garruga on Entebbe Road. While there, we had a
courtsey visit by H. E Prof Gilbert Balibaseka BUKENYA, the former Vice President of
Uganda who encouraged us to be disciplined, network and study hard. Thereafter each
delegation boarded back to their universities.
It was a great time that was shared as medical students and we thank you for your
cooperation. I look forward to working with you next time.
