Statements of compliance

CE statement

The CE conformity declaration for the product is fulfilled when the system is built and cabled in line with the
information given in the manual and the documentation specified within it, such as installation instructions, cable
lists or the like. Where necessary project-specific documentation should be taken into consideration. Deviations
from the specifications or independent modifications to the layout, such as use of cable types with lower
screening values for example, can lead to violation of the CE protection requirements. In such cases the
conformity declaration is invalidated. The responsibility for any problems which subsequently arise rests with the
party responsible for deviating from the installation specifications.

Scope

1 Scope
This SURPASS hiT 7080 document describes the installation and cabling for
the SURPASS hiT 7080 used in the ETSI market.
In release 4.0, the SURPASS hiT 7080 family consists of one main shelf only.
Throughout this document, the main shelf application is designated as
SURPASS hiT 7080.
The description of the rack layout, shelf layout, electrical cabling and optical
cabling are examples only.

Grounding connections

4 Grounding connections
The SURPASS hiT 7080 shelf grounding is required when the shelf is
mounted to the standard ETSI rack. Use 12 AWG or larger size of the
protective grounding cable to ground the shelf.
There is no special grounding cable required for shelf mounted on the Nokia
Siemens Networks ETSI rack. The grounding is obtained by mounting the
shelf to the rack.

Rack Equipment

5 Rack Equipment

5.1 Rack Equipment of SURPASS hiT 7080

The equipment frames meet the ETS 300 119-2 requirements.
The racks are unshielded.
Note
i
In order to minimize the rack spacing of the shelves, the outlets of the
optical cables are at the front of the rack beams. This means that the
mounting plane of the rack is moved to the back.

SURPASS hiT 7080 shall be accommodated in the following ETSI racks:

• Standard ETSI Rack
• Nokia Siemens Networks ETSI Rack
The standard ETSI rack is not recommended to be used because it has limited
space for cabling in the front of the cable duct. Nokia Siemens Networks ETSI
rack is the recommended rack.

5.2 Rack Layout

Optical Cabling (General)

9 Optical Cabling (General)

9.1 Rack Equipment (General)

General directions to the following chapters:
• The connection lists in this document reflect fully-populated SURPASS
hiT 7080 network elements using the maximum number of plug-in cards.
The connection lists also reflect the location of plug-in cards (shelf and
slot number) as shown in the drawings of this chapter. Double-check all
connections. Due to the large number of fibers involved, it is highly
recommended that each fiber be labeled with a tag to identify the
connection.
• Nokia Siemens Networks has several lengths of fiber patch cords
available for use in making connections from one SURPASS hiT 7080
card to another. The recommended length to use for each connection is
listed in the connection lists in this document. These recommended
lengths are, of course, applicable only if the shelves and plug-in cards
are installed as illustrated in the following chapters.
• Fibers leading to/from SURPASS hiT 7080 components to other
customer equipment (customer's WDM system, terminals, etc.) are
generally supplied by the customer. Naturally, there is no length
recommendation listed for these, since the distance involved is unknown.
Also, such customer-supplied fiber cables must be terminated with the
same type and quality of fiber connector as that used on the Nokia
Siemens Networks cables and plug-in cards. Failure to do so may result
in unacceptable optical performance.
• Optical path is given to the level of detail needed for the illustration of
functionality.
• Optical ports with hazard level 1M are marked. Hazard level of
transponder line ports are not marked; its hazard level depends on type
of interface (class 1M or 1).

9.4 List of Optical Connections

Some connections can have Hazard Level 1M.

! The cables of these connections must have Laser Warning Labels. These Connections
are marked in this cable list.
The part numbers of the internal cables with the Laser Warning Labels are given in
Chapter 9.2.

9.5 Cleaning
Cleaning the optical connectors
• The importance of clean fiber end faces and connectors cannot be
overstated. NEVER make any fiber connections without the following the
instructions below. The use of dirty connectors will most likely result in
irreversible damage to fiber end faces and/or connector and
unacceptable optical performance. The damaged components must be
replaced. Burnt-in dust particles will also burn the end face of another,
clean connector (“optical virus”). The cleaning is especially important
while replacing cards.
• If the faces of the optical connectors are dirty, it may cause attenuation
and reflections which impair quality severely. With power higher than 10
dBm, the particles may burn and destroy the optical fiber and thus entire
connector.
To minimize the risk, the following steps must be strictly adhered to:
1. Always fit optical fiber connectors with protective caps to guard against
mechanical damage and contamination. The protective dust caps should
only be removed immediately prior to installation.
2. Before connecting the optical connector, inspect it with a video
microscope (e.g. Westover Scientific “USB Fibre Back Panel Microscope
WOS-FBF-P5000) with a magnification factor of 400.

WARNING: Put the cables carefully into the cable guiding parts otherwise the cables can
be damaged!
WARNING: Do not squeeze fibers while closing the front cover.

General
The minimum bending radius of the optical cables is 17 mm.
The cable slots directly below the plug-in cards have to be used. Up to 16
optical cables can be run through one slot, see Figure 18
Cabling assembly sequence:

It is recommended that the intra-shelf cables are guided in the cable ducts of
the shelf.

Intra-Shelf/Rack Fiber Cabling

After connecting the cables at the plug-in cards, they have to be run through
the cable slots.
Then the cable has to be bent sideways. In order to avoid cable squeezing,
the cables are bent over plastic parts.
The cables are handled sideward to the cable outlets of the shelf.
Overlength (slack) must be stored in the Fiber Tray.
