This is a very easy cabinet to build, but it is essential that the table saw be absolutely square.

Note that the bracing works by both stiffening the panels and tying opposing sides together.

The following instructions are for building a single Poseidon subwoofer.

Top and Bottom panels:

2 pieces of 3/4" MDF, 13 1/4 x 14

1 piece of 3/4" plywood
Side Panels:
2 pieces, 3/4" MDF, 15 1/2 x 16 1/2
Front and Back panels:

14 x 16 1/2
2 pieces 3/4" MDF
1 piece 3/4" plywood
Top Cover

Can be 3/4" MDF edge-banded, Butcher Block, laid-up hardwood, etc.

The top cover overlaps the hardwood corners of the cabinet by 1/2" for a finished look.

plus hardwood or MDF blocks for the inside bottom corners

Side Braces

3/4" plywood
4 pieces

Cross Braces

3/4" plywood
2 pieces
Top and Front Braces

3/4" plywood
4 pieces

Angle Braces

3/4" plywood
2 pieces
Bottom Detail:

A single round cut out for the woofer.

The woofer cut-out is offset towards the front of the cabinet to allow clearance around
the amplifier cover.
The MDF is on the outside, the plywood on the inside.
Panels should be laminated with NCMS soft glue.
The inside edge of the plywood should be rounded with a 3/4" radius roundover bit,
then the entire surface of the through hole sanded smooth and coated with paint or a
thin layer of glue to make it both smooth and air tight.
Test fit the woofer and drill the pilot holes before finishing.
Back Detail:

The plywood goes on the inside of the cabinet.

Test fit the amplifier and volume plate and drill the pilot holes before finishing.

Assembly:
This is an easy cabinet to build.

The two-layer front and bottom panels should be laminated with North Creek Soft Glue.

There is no need to glop this cabinet; glop is only effective above 300 Hz and this
cabinet is never excited at that high a frequency.

It is much easier to attach the top cover before attaching the cross braces. The easiest
way to do this is to drill through holes through the top from the outside, then add gasket
tape to the cabinet top. Placing the top cover upside down on a smooth surface and
positioning the cabinet upside down on top of it, one can attach the top cover with
drywall screws from inside the cabinet. It is a two-person job.

The ladder bracing works by coupling opposite side of the cabinet through the cross
braces and angle braces. The easiest way to install the cross braces is to attach them
to the edge braces with pinch clamps or 1 1/4" drywall screws.

Install 1/2 of the Dacron before installing the amplifier. The Dacron fiber is pushed into
place behind and between the braces. It is not critical as long as it does not expand to
touch the woofer cone.

The amplifier panel is oriented with the heat sink fins vertical, to allow for maximum
cooling. Be very careful when installing the amplifier that there is a good seal.

The woofer has a gasket pre-attached and does not require additional gasket material.

It is easiest to attach the hardwood corners with glue and light clamping pressure, then
attach the bottom inside corner blocks. These blocks should be drilled with a 1/2" bit to
accept the spike threaded insert.

Once placement is determined, the spikes are essential to get the tightest deep bass
out of the system.

Contents:

1 Amplifier Module
1 LED/Volume Control assembly
1 Black ABS Volume Control Mounting Plate
1 Power Cord
14 #6 - 3/4" Black Screws

Cut Outs:

Amplifier cut-out 9 3/8 wide by 10 tall on rear of cabinet.

Volume Control Assembly cut out 1 3/8 x 1 3/4 on rear of cabinet

Installation:

Gently pull the volume knob off of the Volume Control Assembly. Unscrew the mounting nut
and washer.

Through the amplifier plate hole, thread the Volume Control

Assembly through its mounting hole. If the fit is too tight,
one may remove the wiring harnesses, slide the wiring
through, and re-attach the wiring harness. See the drawing at
right for the appropriate color codes. From outside the
cabinet, slide the LED and Volume Control into their
appropriate holes in the mounting plate. Tighten down the
Volume Control with the nut, then press on the black knob.
The Volume Pot Bround may interfere with the mounting
plate. If so, gently bend the ground solder joint away from
the pot and down. Attach to the cabinet with four #6 - 3/4"
black screws.

Attach the Amplifier Module to the cabinet using 10 #6 - 3/4" black screws, with the heatsink
on the outside.

Pull the woofer wiring out of the cabinet and press in the Dacron.

Attach the woofer to the wiring, then attach the woofer to the subwoofer cabinet.
