Based on the reading/video answer the following questions

A. What is the purpose of a generator?

A generator converts magnetism and movement into electricity by induction.
B. List the components of a generator.
- Armature (A,B,C,D)
- Field Magnet
- Slip Rings (S1, S2)
- Brushes (B1, B2)
- Load (Galvanometer)

What is the purpose of a motor?

A motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. It transforms electricity into
movement with magnetism.
List the components of a motor.
- Armature
- South Pole & North Pole
- Brushes
- Commutator Segment
3) compare motors and generators.

Motors Generators

Takes (input) Electric current/ Electricity Mechanical Energy/

Type of current related to DC AC Generators

(A/C or D/C)

Parts - Armature - Armature (A,B,C,D)

- South Pole & North - Field Magnet
Pole - Slip Rings (S1, S2)
- Brushes - Brushes (B1, B2)
- Commutator Segment - Load (Galvanometer)
- coil - coil

Fleming hand rule (left or right left

right)

4) Explain the Fleming's hand rule.

5) In a generator, a wire is placed in a magnetic field. Under what conditions is the electricity
generated?
The generator uses the mechanical energy applied to the wires to force a movement to the electric
charges within the wires that creates the output electric current.
6) How can you increase the size of the voltage induced in a generator?
You can increase the size of the voltage by increasing the amount of volts in the batteries or in other
words, increase the strength of the magnetic field.
7) Answer the question purposed in the picture.
II, III

8) what is the difference between induction and conduction?

Conduction creates electricity by forming a direct contact while induction is the process of creating
electricity without making any direct contact.
