This includes assembly, adjustment, and test. This service assures that the ‘monitor will be delivered to the customer in good ‘condition and that the customer will be fully satisfied with its pertormance right from the start ‘The illustrations and instructions on the following ages give the proper sequences for assembling the John Deere monitors. Do not attempt to ‘mount a tie uniess you have the proper equipment and ‘experience to perform the job. Have it done by your John Deere dealer or a qualified tire repair service. When sealing tire beads on rims, never exceed 35 psi ‘or maximum inflation pressures specified by tire man- ufacturers for mounting tires. Inflation beyond this maximum pressure may break the bead, or even the rim, with dangerous explosive force. If both beads are not seated when the maximum recommended pres- sure is reached, deflate, reposition tire, relubricate bead, and reinflate Detailed agricultural tire mounting instructions, includ~ ing necessary safety precautions, are contained in John Deere Fundamentals of Service (FOS) Manual 55, Tires and Tracks, available through your John Deere dealer. Such information is also available from the Rubber Manufacturers Association and from tire manufacturers, Electrical Connections Keep all sparks and flames away from battery, as gas iven off by electrolyte is explosive. The HI/LOW (B) switch places the monitor into a HIGH range of 16 to 145 seeds per ‘second or into a LOW range of 2 to 16 seeds per second. The HIGH range will usually be used for ‘soybeans and other volume-metered seed. If, when rotating the tuning knob clockwise, you are not able to get all lamps turned on when in full Clockwise position, return the rate control knob to the counterclockwise position and place the HI/LO ‘witch in the HI position. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 ‘Once the monitor is tuned, it the seed flow in any planting unit drops, the row lamp will light and the audible alarm will sound (example - inadequate seed flow to opener from seed hopper, broken finger, or spring etc.) lt seed flow to the ground stops for any reason, the row lamp will come on and the audible alarm will sound (example - sheared pin, plugged runner, thrown chain, (or empty hopper). ‘The loudness of the audible alarm can be changed by rotating the cover on the power module. INDUSTRIAL, BEQUIPMENT Operating the Monitor 9 When the monitor detects all rows below the tuning point, such as turning at field ends, the audible alarm will turn off, but all the lamps willbe lit peers exter ‘Once the tuning point has been determined, planting speed must be maintained as seed rate is directly proportional to ground speed. Any changes in ground speed requires retuning of the monitor. ROW ELIMINATION ta problem has developed with a sensor or harness that would show an erroneous failure, remove the desired lamp. Correct the problem as soon as possible and replace the lamp. All calculations are set in ENGLISH mode. IMPORTANT: Citizen Band and C.B. radio tr missions originating from tractor per will alter monitor operation. Turn monitor OFF before transmitting. English/Metric Switch (On the back side of the monitor console, set the left ‘witch in ENGLISH or METRIC mode. Operate/Calibrate Distance Switch Sot the center switch in OPERATE mode. Ifthe constant information has not been program- ‘med, if battery power is interrupted, or if the setup switch has been touched, the lower display will show a HI WARN read out. 2. To change the number displayed, touch the DIGIT SELECT switch until the triangle is below the ‘umber to be changed 3. Touch the 0-9 switch until the desired number is displayed, Tho number shown, 033.0, ic an example. This ‘means that when any row exceeds 33,000 seeds peer acre, the alarm will sound, the display will show HIWARN, and the display will lock onto that row, ‘The alarm will sound every 1/200th of an acre as long as the planting rate is being exceeded. 477255 NOTE: The high warning limit example Is 10 percent ‘more than the desired planting rate of 30,000 ‘seeds per acre used in this example. This limit is a variable decided by the user. It should be kept in mind that setting too close a limit will ‘sound the HI WARN alarm more often. Refer to the planting rate charts and information under charts in the planter operator's manual for average number of seeds per pound. Take the average seeds er pound and muttiply by pounds per acre This will give a very rough average seed/acre population ‘Add 50 percent of this for a starting HI WARN limit. Touch the SETUP SELECT switch. The display will show LO WARN. 2. To change the number, touch the DIGIT SELECT ‘switch until the triangle is below the number to be changed. 3. Touch the 0-9 switch until the desited number is displayed, The number shown, 027.0, is an example. This ‘means that when any row is planting less than ses 27,000 seeds per acre, the alarm will sound, the display will show LO WARN, and the display will lock onto that row. The alarm will sound every 1/200th of an acre as long as the row is planting low. NOTE: The low warning limit example is 10 percent less than the desired planting rate of 30,000 seeds per acre used in this example. This limit fsa variable decided by the user. IMPORTANT: Loss of battery power to the console by disconnecting the power leads or disconnecting the console from the Power module will result in a loss of area information in the console. 1. Touch the SETUP SELECT switch. The display will show AREA 2. Touch the DIGIT SELECT switch until the triangle is below the number to be changed. 3. Touch the SETUP SELECT switch. The display will show CAL. ee Driving the planter through a 400 ft. (121.9 m) marked off distance in a planting field will give the monitor the most accurate information. 2. While driving the planter at planting speed, push the OPERATE/CALIBRATE DISTANCE switch (on the back side of console) down to CALIBRATE DIS- TANCE exactly when passing start marker on the 400 ft. (121.9 m) marked course. This will set the display at zero and start counting the pulses. Ex- ‘actly when passing the end 400 ft. (121.9 m) marker, move the switch back to operate. Hf a distance wheel is used, the display should show approximately 1510. If a radar unit is used. the display will show approximately 6096. Either are theoretical Rd numbers and different ground conditions will give a slightly diferent result. This number can be input into the console, but a more accurate population data will be obtained by using the 400 ft. (121.9 m) marked method. Wah Ostance Wee! Touch the SETUP SELECT switch until, the step to be changed is displayed. IMPORTANT: All information remains in the moni- tor as long as the battery is con- nected. However, the setup values will be lost from any power inter- ruption. PLANTING OPERATION Turning Monitor On eos Touch the ON/OFF switch. If the voltage was interrupted, the setup values will change IM any of the values have changed, correct them, then touch any one of the brown buttons to operate the monitor Seed Population With the power on and the planter operating, the ‘monitor scans the population rate of each row in se- uence, ‘When the planting starts, the monitor receives signals, from the seed sensors and distance sensor. During the first 1/200th acre, about 90 tt. (27.4 m) of planting with 30-in, (76 cm) rows, the monitor counts up to the actual population, then scans each row population. azz68 NOTE: During start up when the monitor is counting up, it will reset to zero and begin counting up oe ‘again, This Is normal and is done to eliminate start up errors. Touching the SCAN MIN/AVGIMAX switch while the monitor is scanning, the display switches to the MIN/ AVGIMAX mode. First the row number with the lowest “MIN* population rate is displayed. Secondly, the "AVG" population of all the rows is displayed. ‘Then the row number with the highest "MAX" population rate is displayed. ‘The MIN/AVG/MAX mode will keep repeating unt the SCAN MIN/AVG/MAX switch is touched, ‘Then the scanning mode will start again. Touching the ROW SELECT will advance the display to the next row number. In this mode, if the population changes, the display will update and show the new population 922272 ‘Speed and Area ‘Touching the SPEED switch will display ground speed. The message blinks on and off, and the audible alarm sounds continuously. This overrides any other display, When the planter is stopped, the monitor continues to display the failed message, but the alarm will stop after a few seconds. With the planter stopped, the brown buttons can be operated to review population for the last 1/200th of an acre. ‘The loudness of the audible alarm can be changed by rotating the cover on the power module, When planting is resumed, if the problem causing the alarm condition has not been corrected, the alarm will sound and the message will be displayed. If the con- dition has been corrected, the monitor resumes to the display mode it was in before the failure occurred. Display During Transporting or Turning Around When the planter is lifted and no seed drop is detected, the monitor indicates failure of each row in sequence. The audible alarm will sound for a few seconds. FAILED, SPEED and a zero will be shown, ‘The sensor problem should be fixed as soon as possi- ble, but if planting must be continued, the monitor will still monitor seed flow. Ifthe rate in any row falls below two seeds per second, the row failed message will be displayed, 222276 High or Low Population When the population of any row exceeds either the high or low limits, the display shows the rows, the actual planting population and a Hor LO warning. Also the alarm will intermittently sound, ay NOTE: If the high and low limits are set too close to each other, this warning will occur often. Total area provides a running total, such as acres planted for the entire season. Field area can be used for each field and reset to 000.0 upon competion of a field IMPORTANT: Loss of battery power to the console from disconnecting the power leads or disconnecting the console from the power module will result in a loss of area inforniation in the con- sole.
