“I Thought – I Saw Realization”

Human Resource (HR) is everything about people in an organization – hiring,

screening, administering and training of employees. Or so I thought? When I was studying
my undergrad, it never really came up to my mind that Human Resource is that essential
in an organization. All I thought was they just handle the hiring, the payroll and people
stuffs. Little did I know that HR is much more than that.

Watching these two videos made me see that HR is not just the ones in the HR
department - Human Resources is everyone in an organization. It is about treating people
humanely and appreciating and believing in one’s strengths and capabilities. It is about
servicing the HUMANS in the workplace.

It made me realize that encouraging and motivating each other will result to good
performance. I remember when I was just starting to work as a bank teller, I got short of
P1,000. I was really frightened that time. I thought I might not be able to be regularized at
my first job and that I’m such an idiot having overlooked that money. But my colleagues
were all there helping me find that 1k. They kept on checking all my validation slips and
transactions but to no avail. I have to pay for that P1,000. My colleagues were there
cheering me up and encouraging me. Just their presence made me feel relaxed. They made
me feel that I’m valued even though I made a mistake. It motivated me to do better and be
a better version of myself. That experience taught me a lesson and my colleagues, who are
my friends now, help me stand stronger.

This experience, I think, was one of the reasons that helped me do a better job.
Having such colleagues who are not just with you at times of successes but also at times of
challenges, will really make you feel that you’re important and belonged. This is what HR
is to me now.
