I. INTRODUCTION
Rauvolfia serpintina, formerly known as serpintina is a safe and effective treatment plant
for abdominal pain. The plant was used by many physicians throughout India and in the 1940s
and then was used throughout the world in the 1950s, including in the United States and Canada.
This small shrub, native to the Orient from India to Sumatra, has for centuries been used in
Indian medicine. In 1952 reserpine, one the several alkaloids in the plant, was isolated from its
root and has since been evaluated in western medicine as one of the most valuable drugs for
important way over the years for the discovery of new drugs and pharmaceutical products.
Serpintina has many uses that could benefit our health. The said plant has very low toxicity and
no over dosage cases have been reported. Perhaps it is because unlike any other herbs, you won't

plant, then the researchers come up with an idea to make it to a medicine tea.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The main objective of this study aims to determine the feasibility of serpintina plant to

Some studies have shown that the side effects of serpintina plant can range from mild to
serious and include nasal congestion, it is also not advisable for pregnant woman that may cause
abortion.
medicine plant for abdominal pain, since this study deals with the assessment of individuals,
most especially for students who are suffering from abdominal pain. The researchers would
likely want to know the benefits and effects of individuals who will use their serpintina plants as
The scope of the research study was to produce an alternative medicine tea for abdominal
pain, it also included the analysis of its effectiveness based on the experiment made.
This plant is native to Bangladesh, India and other humid region of the world (Roy et al., 1994).
R. serpentina contains some 50 indole alkaloids and most of the total alkaloid content percent
mainly in root back (Klyushnichenko et al., 1995). Cultivation of Rauwolfia in India was
reported by many authors (Biswas, 1956; Dutta et al., 1963; Badhwar et al., 1955). Rauwolfia
serpentina L. Benth. Ex Kurz. Is an evergreen perrenial shrub which grows up to 60m of height.
The family includes 50 species, distributed worldwide in the region of the Himalayas, Indian
Peninsula, Burma, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and is indigenous to India, Bangladesh and other
regions of Asia (Ghani et al., 1998). It is also commonly known as Sarpagadha, Chandrabagha,
Snake root plant, Chotachand, Chandrika and Harkaya etc. (Mallick et al., 2012).
For centuries, root of Rauwolfia serpentina has been used in the traditional unani and
ayurvedic medicine (Andrew and Chevallier 1996). Rauwolfia serpentina contains a variety of
compounds with antioxidant capacity and other health benefits like treatment of diabetes,
cardiovascular disease, cancer and hypertension. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were
high in petroleum ether and acetone extract of Rauwolfia serpentina (Harisananraj et al., 2009).
Rauwolfia serpentina has long being used in India for the treatment of snakebites, hypertension,
high blood pressure and mental illness. Different ethnic groups use this plant to treat snake,
insect and animal bite, mental illness, schizophrenia, hypertension, blood pressure,
gastrointestinal diseases, circulatory disorders, pneumonia, fever, malaria, asthma, skin disease,
scabies, eye diseases, spleen diseases, AIDS, rheumatism, body pain, veterinary diseases etc. this
plant is also being used to prepare fermented food products (Dey and Den, 2010). It has been
stated that this plant is used as antidote against snakebite (Khyade et al., 2011). Plant derived
indole inhibitors were identified from the extracts of Rauwolfia serpentina which has the
capacity to acts as aldose reductase, a potent drug for diabetes (Pathnania et al., 2013). The
methanol root extract of this plant provides the high antioxidant compound phenol of 233mg/gm.
So this plant has significant antibiotic and hypolipidemic activity. (Azmi and Qureshi, 2012).
The phytochemical analysis of Rauwolfia serpentina has many medicinal values. It is used for
the diseases such as Anthelmintic, anti hypertensive, snake bite, diarrhoea, dysentery, cholera,
fever, pneumonia, malaria, body aches, eczema, burns, menstrual disorders, scabies, skin
cancers, asthma, respiratory problems, eye inflammation, spleen diseases and feveopacity of the
cornea and central epilepsy (Rai, 2004; Itoh et al., 2005; Mohanta et al., 2006; Bhattarai et al.,
2009; Dey and Dec, 2010; Azmi et al., 2013; Ghani, 1998). Because of presence of high amount
of alkaloids it is used for the treatment of circulatory disorders (Fabricant and Farnsworth, 2001),
treat liver, abdomen pain, gastrointestinal disorders and to expel intestinal worms form the
children (Nayak et al., 2004; Anisuzzaman et al., 2007; Dey and Den, 2011).
Due to its poor seed germination rate, it cannot be easily increases the number of plants, because
of its high medicinal use, R. serpentina is becoming extinct and is now listed as an endangered
species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN)
Various parts of the Rauwolfia serpentina plant were used as explant and inoculated in
Murashige and Skoog medium containing 2, 4-D and 6-BAP. Maximum callus inductions of
93.65% were obtained in leaf and stem explants. The callus was inoculated in shooting medium

METHODOLOGY
We know for a fact that our study will center those budgets a bit low.
So we took the initiative to use some materials that wouldn't cost much!
expensive. They are those that can be found in every houses kitchen;
2.Drier
3.Blender
4.Small container
PROCEDURE
3.Dry the leaves for 2-3 day until crisp or just heat it up in a pan.
4.Blend the leaves in a blender or use a mortar and pestle until the leaves are crushed into a
powder substance.
5. And here's the finish product of the Serpintina leaves this can be put in a small container to be
preserved.
After the alternative medicine tea was produced from the Serpintina plant, the
researchers get its effectiveness by basically mixing the said medicine tea upon the part of the

Researchers use this purposive sampling design since the researchers intends to gather
RESULTS AND FINDINGS
Trials Ingredients
RESULTS
1st Trial - The researchers didn't know how many dry serpintina leaves to use. At first they tried
to use 5-6 dry serpintina leaves but it resulted to a failure. In the end, using 10 dry serpintina
2ndTrial -The researchers can't decide if they should boil the plant to extract the nutrients into a
liquid kind of substance or to use mortar and pestle to crush the serpintina into little pieces. The
researchers have chosen to just to crush the serpintina leaves to little piece and to put the

1. In our investigation the reasearchers found a remedy for abodminal pain, If the research
is use for further investigation, the reasearchers recommend that they should go further
with the research by adding other ingredients that could help to remedy the abdominal
pain.
2. The serpintina plant can be useful for those who have diabetes but it is still a theory no
3. The serpintina plant is use to cure hypertension, some research says that the serpintina

ABSTRACT
The study focus on testing if the Serpintina plant can be a medicine tea that cure
abdominal pain study show that Rauwolfia serpentina has alloxan-induced diabetic Wister male
mice. Mice were divided in control (distilled water at 1 mL/kg) and alloxan-induced diabetic
mice which subdivided into diabetic (distilled water at 1 mL/kg), negative (0.05% dimethyl
sulfoxide at 1 mL/kg), positive (glibenclamide at 5 mg/kg) controls, and three test groups (MREt
at 10, 30, and 60 mg/kg). All treatments were given orally for 14 days. Qualitatively MREt
showed the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, flavonoids, glycosides, cardiac glycosides,
phlobatannins, resins, saponins, steroids, tannins, and triterpenoids, while quantitatively extract
was rich in total phenols. The flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids were also determined in root
powder. MREt found effective in improving the body weights, glucose and insulin levels,
insulin/glucose ratio, glycosylated and total hemoglobin in test groups as compared to diabetic
control. Similarly, significantly decreased levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density
lipoprotein (LDL-c), and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-c) cholesterols were found in test
groups. Significant lipolysis with improved glycogenesis was also found in liver tissues of all
test groups. ALT levels were found normal in all groups. Thus, MREt improves the glycemic,
antiatherogenic, coronary risk, and cardioprotective indices in alloxan-induced diabetic
mice.Serpintina plant can be used to treat abdominal pain according to some studies. The
researchers have successfully completed the product and already tested it.
