I have also held leadership positions within many of the extracurricular activities I
participate in, including vice president of the JDHS chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society,
co-vice president of the JDHS chapter of the National Art Honor Society, and alto section leader
of the JDHS Chorale. These leadership positions have enabled me to work cooperatively with
others as well as lead effectively. Aside from those groups, I also participate in the JDHS Strings
Orchestra, National Honor Society, Gay/Straight Alliance, Junior State of America, Fall Drama—
for which I was nominated for a Foxy Award—and Spring Musical. It is just as important to
know how to be a leader as it is to know how to be a follower, so being a member under other
leaders has allowed me to know when to take control and when to let others take the lead.
My main employment has been babysitting, and I have worked with the same family for
the past few years. By babysitting, I have learned the importance of patience and responsibility,
which are crucial when working with both children and adults. I also volunteer at a local
religious education program, in which I help with the kindergarten class. Due to the extreme
unpredictability of kindergarteners, I have learned how to quickly manage difficult, frustrating
situations, which is a very useful skill when working in high-stress environments.
Sincerely,
Lillian Friedman
