A. Gentle or superior man

1. in my opinion, The person that Confucius is talking about is the

Leaders. Leaders of a community or group of people.

2. a. acts before he speaks then speaks according to his actions

- its significance to development is that, more work will be done

in just a shorter period of time

b. he should have a virtue

- this guides him to his decisions in achieving development.

c. his mind is conversant with righteousness

- the leader must think only of things that would make everyone
taste development and not only for himself.

d. he wishes to be slow in his speech and earnest in his conducts.

-his speeches must be thought properly and not just that he

mumbles things that should not be necessary because it may c

e. humble

-he listens to other ideas of other people and improves himself

f. respectful

- his followers listens to him and follows him without hesitating

and he can utilize people to help him in achieving development.

g. Kind

- a way to make people respect him

h. He should be just

- he should be fair in decision making.

i. he is knowledgeable of the rules of propriety.

- he knows his limitations and he don’t overstep them.

 j. he should be satisfied and composed

- his decisions should be thought thoroughly to avoid mistakes in

the future.

B. Life worth living

1. Confucius said “with coarse rice to eat, with water to drink, and
bended arm for pillow, I have still joy in the midst of these things. Riches
and honors acquired by unrighteousness are to me as a floating cloud

My answer is no because the generation today seek respect and happiness.

In addition, the generation today thinks about new gadgets.

C. Jen, righteousness

2. Confucius said, “There are three friendships which are advantageous

and three are injurious, friendship with the upright; friendship with man of
much objection: these are advantageous. Friendships with the man of specious
airs; friendship with the insultingly soft and friendship with the glib
tongued these: these are injurious.

D. filial diety

1. The Children should support their parents and serve them while they
are still alive

2. I think well being of a community or society depends on the

relationship of the parents’ children. Because the family is the building
block of a society, so it would be affecting the society as well if the
treatment of the family were not good.

E. rectifications of names

1. It signifies that you are the superior man in your society.

F. government

1. there must be reverent attention to business, and sincerity; economy

in expenditure and love for men; and the employment of the people at the
proper seasons.
 2.sufficiency of food, sufficiency of military equipments.

I think they are true to most country in the world. More countries
are already having enough food and military power…

G. education

1. yes, it is important. The stand of Confucius is “when you know a

thing, to hold that you know it; and when you do not know a thing to allow
that you do not know it; -this is knowledge.”

2. Confucius said ”he must be thus, - earnest, urgent and bland: -among
his friends, earnest and urgent; among his brethren, bland,” yes I agree
because, I think that those should be the characteristics of a true scholar.

Over all

2. I think that the teachings of Confucius is still usable in this kind

of world, because most of what his teachings still talks about most of the
things in the world today. We can still learn things from the teachings of
Confucius.
